At some point you stop analysing the dataset and simply become part of it 🫠

The hardest part of analysing data isn’t usually the analysis.
It’s the deciding when you’ve checked everything enough!

Because every time you look one more time, you find something else.

Researchers: please tell me I’m not the only one 🫣

Why do academics write like this?? 🥲
And why am I learning to write like this?? 😫

Today was a difficult day in my PhD 💔

With less than four months until submission, I’ve decided to change how I approach supervision for the remainder of my PhD.

It wasn’t one meeting or one disagreement that brought me here. It was a series of experiences that made me reflect on what supervision should look like, what independence actually means, and how much ownership I have over my own research.

I know supervision is complicated. Supervisors have different expectations, limited time, and their own academic responsibilities. And I know that becoming an independent researcher means learning to make difficult decisions yourself.

But I don’t think independence and support should be opposites.

I’m proud of the research I’ve done. I’m proud of the questions I’ve asked, even when they haven’t been universally welcomed. And I’m determined to submit a thesis that reflects the researcher I’ve become.

I’m sharing this because I suspect I’m not the only PhD student who has experienced the complicated side of supervision.

If you’ve been there, I’d genuinely love to hear how you navigated it.

This only relates to my Danish side of my PhD and I will continue with updates meeting on my Australian part.

It happened once and I’m living on it for the rest of my PhD 😭

I love to show my past-self how much I have grown 🫶🏻

Opening my thesis document with confidence.
Losing that confidence one chapter at a time 🫠

Anyone else in the thesis-writing phase?

The academic rabbit hole is a dangerous place. You go looking for one reference and somehow end up reading 47 papers you didn’t even know existed. 🫠

Motherhood and academia. Two things I love. Two things that both seem to require more hours than a day actually has.

Most days the work doesn’t disappear. It just moves to the evenings, after bedtime, when the house is finally quiet.

And while I’m grateful to have that option, I don’t think we should romanticise working late just to make everything fit.

I’m still figuring out the balance. And I’m not sure I will feel balanced - maybe just more comfortable?
