Zinnias, gomphrena, celosia and amaranth all still going strong but the season will be ending soon. Looking forward to a flower garden expansion in the spring. I’ll be experimenting with a few more varieties.

I’m giving fall gardening a try again.
Radishes, carrots and beets all direct sown. Plant labels have variety, plant date and expected harvest date.
10 broccoli and 10 cauliflower plants added to new raised beds and promptly covered with netting to prevent bugs and other animals from enjoying them before we do.

💐Lisianthus seed update!💐
I originally sowed 112 cells with various lisianthus seeds from @johnnys_seeds
Overall, a little less than half germinated in the cells. I also tried a seed snail with same seeds and had an insanely good germination rate. Since I’m trying to get up to about 100 plants, I started another cell tray of about 24 and had decent rates there, too.
I am small scale, the transfer from the seed snail should not be too cumbersome, but I can see how anyone doing this on a larger scale would not want to do this as it will be time consuming and a bit labor intensive. Once temps have cooled down, these will go into a new raised bed to spend the winter before growing tall in the spring and blooming next summer. taken in Highland Village, Texas by @freshfromdel

First apple luffa of the season! I really like the shape of this one better than the traditional elongated luffa gourds. I will likely cut this one in half and use as a kitchen/dish scrub.

All the guides say that in 8b that you can transplant brassicas in September but I’m waiting out this heat wave a little longer to prevent stunting or bolting. This soil is a combination of seed starting soil, compost, worm castings and kelp meal. The idea is that they will be getting some nutrients but I’m not looking for a lot of growth right now since they are basically just being held back a few weeks. I don’t want roots to get bound.
I’ve planted 2 rounds of seeds for succession planting. Hoping for lots of broccoli for broccoli cheese soup and cauliflower for pickled cauliflower 🥦 🧀 🥣 taken in Highland Village, Texas by @freshfromdel

At this point, I might as well cut it up and serve it to them on a platter. 🍈 🍴 😭 taken in Highland Village, Texas by @freshfromdel

The boys went to watch some baseball and I stayed behind to play in the dirt. Lisianthus seeds are now under grow lights for the next 3 months. Hoping that all goes well. If not, I’ll be doing plugs next time. #sayalittleprayer taken in Highland Village, Texas by @freshfromdel
