Luthier on Luthier: @bashkin_guitars sits down with Italy's @bortolozzoguitars. While many nylon-string guitar luthiers are traditionalists, Marco adds his own, very original touches to his guitars. On the podcast, he and Michael Bashkin talk about his Olympic rosette design; Marco's neck joint construction; and a black-varnished guitar which he tinted using melted shellac 78 records. In FJ58, we caught up with @hand.habits about their beautiful record “Blue Reminder” and their many collaborative projects. “There is a sense of arrival felt on Duffy’s newest album, as though their prior records were all ingredients prepped for the stew of Blue Reminder. It’s a record full of instant classics; songs that present themselves with studied grace and an electric sense of effortlessness. Remember Ann Brashares 2001 book, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? Twenty-five years later, musician @danielmarcusclark writes about an archtop guitar that – like those jeans – seems to fit just about everybody. The instrument, a 1942 D’Angelico New Yorker, was originally built for a jazz hero, but ended up in the hands of Leo Kottke. Clark documents its history and its many travels.
