My gratitude is through the roof.

I can finally call myself the first woman in my family—on both my mother’s and father’s side—to earn a Master of Science degree, specifically in International Relations.

This journey has been incredibly emotional and rewarding. I am proud to have completed my degree with the highest possible grade, 12, and an overall GPA of 11.35. Looking back, I feel I have achieved everything I hoped to accomplish during these five years at university.

It has been five years of nonstop studying, researching, writing, and learning. While I am certainly ready for a short break, it is also bittersweet to reach the end of this chapter. I genuinely loved the process. I loved the exams, the research, the discussions, and the challenge of continuously pushing myself to grow as an academic.

With my master’s thesis now completed, my focus shifts toward the next goal: a PhD. Over the coming year, I will be preparing a PhD proposal with the ambition of beginning doctoral studies at the University of Helsinki in autumn 2027. It also means that, after more than five wonderful years, my chapter in Denmark will come to an end as I return home to Helsinki at the end of this year.

My work in Egypt will continue. The issues affecting Egyptian women remain close to my heart, and I look forward to continuing that work through NGOs, advocacy, and future academic research.

I am of course most grateful to my husband and to my mother for supporting me through these years - and especially this past six months - and caring for me while I’ve locked in for this achievement.

I also cannot thank my group of friends who turned up at the exam (both online and physically) and at the evening celebration. I spent my entire day surrounded by dozens of people who have loved and supported me daily. I could not be more grateful.

Yesterday, I celebrated. Today, I rest. Tomorrow, the work continues.

Where does one even begin with a story like this?

This week, I had the honor of representing the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) at CSW70 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

And how incredible is it for someone like me - who is even yet to graduate in her Masters - to achieve something like that? It took all my bravery to face New York alone. To find my way within the UN with great responsibility resting upon my shoulders. I was scared. Filled with anxiety. I almost backed out in fear.

But I knew I couldn’t: I had a journey ahead of me that wasn’t just for me or for my organisation.

But the truth is, this journey didn’t start in New York.

It started with my mother.

My mother worked tirelessly to break the generational curse of FGM and gender-based violence. She gave birth to me in Finland so that I could grow up safe. So that I could have opportunities. So that I could live in a world with more equality.

Moving to Finland nearly destroyed her body and her mind. But it did not break her.

She arrived with nothing. No money. No friends. No family.

And yet she fought through everything. Racism. Sexism. Violence. Systems that were not on her side. People who were not on her side.

Step by step, she built a life from nothing.

Today, she is a self-made multimillionaire. She did it alone. No one handed her money. No one gave her advice. She worked day and night, taking risks, raising me mostly by herself.

Everything I am today exists because of her strength.

Representing ECWR this week — under the leadership of the incredible Nehad Abulkomsan — was not just a professional milestone for me.

It was deeply personal.

Because every conversation about women’s rights, every fight for dignity, every step toward justice reminds me of why this work matters.

It reminds me of my mother.

She taught me that if you work hard, believe in yourself, and stand up for what is right — even when the world pushes back — you can become whatever you choose to become.

This journey is only beginning. But it began with her.

2023 vs 2025

What a difference a good trainer, a new mentality, a good program and a good osteotherapist can achieve!

When I got Rose, he was the sweetest darling horse I had ever met, with a dash of spice in his personality, but there were things that were clearly wrong. Born out of stress of movement, poor handling in the stable I first had him in (even if only for one month), and a lot of problems I didn’t know how to recognise as a first time horse owner. In the end, these issues spiralled a few times where his panic response was to bolt, and I had a few falls - which were luckily quite gentle. Even when he panicked, he always made sure not to hurt me.

It is cold. He is a young boy. And even with how fresh he is, he still manages to impress me with how far he has come along. Before this lunge, I rode him around the arena bareback with reins attached to his halter, and he was an angel. No rushing, no broncing. Just willingness to work and to be a darling.

This, to me, is a testament of what it takes to also let go of your old principles and be almost fully retrained into a different kind of horsemanship - and in this case, that would be clicker training and centered riding.

Huge amount of his progress is also credited to the incredible @ellensauer_ for training us both and being our biggest cheerleader, even when there were times where I was in tears and I felt like I was regressing. And of course to @karinwyrtz for her incredible talent and work on osteotherapy, and of course, @malouvesternielsen who has been meticulously training him from the saddle and ground - and helping me to understand and learn through her experience and vision.

One is never too old to relearn the basic fundamentals of horsemanship, and no horse is never too old to relearn as well. by @frida_sewi

Happy 30th birthday to my entire universe. ❤️❤️❤️💕

Out of the 30 years he’s been around, I’ve known him for 10, loved him unconditionally for 7, lived with him for 5, and been married to him for 2.

He is everything that is good in life. That is selfless, kind, altruistic and intelligent. He has grown so much in these years that I’ve known him - from a boy to a man - and in turn, he has also made me grow to be the woman I am today. I would be nothing without him.

After a day of spa pampering, massage and more pampering, we finish our evening with a luxurious dinner, and tomorrow, we will celebrate with friends whom also love and celebrate him unconditionally. 💕

@frida_sewi er bare så sej. I går prøvede hun kræfter af med galoppen rigtigt for første gang.

På første video ser du første forsøg, hvor Frida bliver nervøs, hvilket resulterede i at hun spændte op, faldte forover og holdte balancen i den indvendige tøjle. Hvilket gjorde det svært for Rose (hesten) at bevæge sig, rundt i galoppen.

Men efter nogle fif, prøvede vi igen og resultatet blev 100 gange bedre, langt fra perfekt men en god start.
Frida fik slappet meget mere af, gav lidt slip på den indvendige tøjle hvilket, gjorde det meget nemmere for Rose, at galoppere rundt i et fornuftigt tempo uden alt for meget spænding.

Så alt i alt gør Frida og Rose det så godt, og har rykket så rigtig meget på meget kort tid, hvilket dygtige @ellensauer_ som underviser har lagt et rigtig stort og flot arbejde i 😀
