🌿 Through the 2025 Call for Applications FRIDA welcomed 24 new grantee partners.

🌿  A total number of 188 core support and 172 special grants were awarded reaching a total $1 842 500.

🌿 In September 2025, FRIDA held its very first reverse call for applications, challenging the power and labor differential in resource mobilization hierarchies.

🌿 And through FRIDA’s Grantee Partner Journey, we strengthened our financial and non-financial support to grantee partners, enabling young feminist organizers to receive capacity strengthening resources.

“While the evidence for why we should be cautious of Gen AI and its continued use is quite hefty already, it’s not difficult to understand why many of us may still reach for it. We live in a capitalist society that encourages and often rewards productivity over rest; quantity over quality; outcomes over process; short, sharp narratives over longer nuanced, context specific paragraphs etc. And in the world of social justice organising and movement building where there are never enough resources, time or people to do the work, a tool to help streamline admin tasks and spend less time in the ‘back office’ and more time on the ‘frontlines’ can feel invaluable.

The thing is, that kind of time saving, labour reducing, and income generating resource is necessary. But that kind of resource should already exist - and the philanthropic sector should be a part of it.

Philanthropy should be among the infrastructures or tools saving movements time, reducing labour and generating income - all without decimating the environment, stealing the intellectual property and data of activists, burning their resources or self generating the future without anyone’s consent”

FRIDA’s 2025 Annual Report is out 🌿

In 2025, FRIDA announced Nada and Paige as our new Co-Executive Directors. Paige, previously Chief of Programs, and Nada, previously Resource Mobilization Co-Manager have brought a wealth of experience, institutional knowledge and insight to their roles and into the wider FRIDA team and network.

FRIDA has always been an incubator for young feminist leadership across the global majority. We are excited to continue this legacy through the hands of FRIDA staff who have worked directly to ensure that our mission of resourcing young feminists remains at the forefront of what we do even amidst a shifting sector and global context.

In the 2025 Annual Report the Co-EDs share some of their thoughts coming into their role.

Welcome to the FRIDA 2025 Annual Report!

In 2025 we celebrated 15 years of FRIDA - A young feminist fund that boldly imagined and then created a participatory grantmaking mechanism that has funded young feminist collectives where they are. Placing decision making power about resourcing back into the hands of the communities themselves, foregrounding transparency and equal distributions of power even in a historically hierarchical sector and above all, remaining steadfast in its political commitments to young feminist collectives across the Global Majority.

In the midst of increasing alarm the world over about the state of our political institutions, the state of our planet and the life she holds, the state of human rights mechanisms and the ability of life, freedom, liberation, love and joy to persist, we do not take for granted all that FRIDA had to celebrate in 2025.

We also do not take for granted what it means and what it takes not just for all of us at FRIDA, but for feminist movements across the world, to organize in increasingly hostile territories and in opposition to forces that have taken direct and deliberate moves to restrict and disempower feminist organizing.

It is the ability of feminists in general and young feminists in particular to dismantle the old way while dreaming and creating the new way, that has been our compass.

In this second installment of ‘Reflections from the Back Office’ - an OpED series penned by FRIDA’s finance team - Min Zhu posits the role of the grant-making infrastructure provided specifically by intermediaries in meeting grantee partners where they are and in the context of the current geopolitical climate.

“When the resources become scarce but the need for social changes remains, a question inevitably appears:

Why fund an intermediary? Why not directly fund grassroots organizations?

It’s a fair question, but I believe it misunderstands what intermediary funds actually do.”

‘Reflections From The Back Office’ is a 2 part OpEd series written by members of FRIDA’s finance team!

“Working in finance within the philanthropic ecosystem means seeing much of the sector through numbers and indicators. In that sense, budgets, audits, financial reports, grant agreements and payments can provide an essential lens into how resources move, but those can only tell part of the story. A spreadsheet can show how much was spent and whether an expenditure adhered to an agreed budget. Still, it can’t easily define what financial stability (or its absence) means for the people and organizations behind those numbers. “

In a context marked by the rise of far-right movements, the concentration of technological power in the hands of a few companies, and a digital culture often characterised by surveillance, data extraction and the logic of constant performance, talking about digital resilience means asking ourselves a deeper question: how do we want to move through increasingly hostile, violent and extractive digital spaces that are very much embedded in our lives, our movements and our communities?

A few months ago, at Women Deliver 2026, FRIDA and Numun Fund co-facilitated a workshop on digital resilience and the construction of feminist digital territories.

This past April FRIDA travelled to Oxford, England and Narrm, Australia for the 2026 Skoll World Forum and Women Deliver 2026 respectively.

Through broad yet intersecting themes that are incredibly important to both philanthropy and feminist movement building in this moment in history, it was important to us to centre, first and foremost, the political commitments and contributions of young feminist activists.

The First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels opens tomorrow. GAGGA’s and WoMin African Alliance’s policy brief, ‘From Fossil Fuels to Gender-Just Futures: Land, Care and Livelihoods as Foundations of a Just Transition,’ lays out what a feminist, locally-led and commons-based just transition looks like in practice.

It is grounded in a decade of frontline climate work experience, with 2,590+ women-led organisations across 60+ countries. It is written by and with the communities bearing the costs of extraction — and leading the alternatives

The brief makes five core demands of policy-makers, decision-makers and funding partners:

Scale and transform climate finance: reframe it as reparation, not charity.
Ensure direct access for women-led community-based organisations: grants, not loans; flexibility, not bureaucracy.
Ensure women’s decision-making power: not participation, but leadership in governance structures.
Put feminist post-extractive pathways at the centre: commons governance, agroecology, community-owned energy.
End false solutions: no fossil gas, no offsetting that displaces communities, no green extractivism without safeguards.

Share it. Tag the funders, policymakers and allies in your network who need to read it. The window for a genuinely just transition is open, but not indefinitely. Let’s make the most of it.
