The art world is really just a bunch of people showing up for each other🔥

On this week’s Friday Heaters Podcast, we’re joined by LA-born artist and sculptor @catladdymaddonna who reminds us that the art world isn’t just galleries, museums, and institutions. It’s the communities we build, the friends we make work alongside, and the people who keep showing up.

Fresh off her inclusion in the Hammer’s Made in L.A. biennial, Kelly joins us to talk about her inventive sculptural practice, her love of glass, and finding new ways to make art accessible to everyone. Full episode out now! 🔥

Sometimes what we don’t see is just as compelling as what we do🔥

@miamiddleton paints from vintage photography and theatrical imagery to create haunting scenes full of faceless figures, cropped perspectives, and mysterious gestures. The missing details leave us to fill in the blanks, making these paintings all the more intriguing. A little eerie, a little surreal, and a lot of heat🔥

Turns out, your mom might have been your first art teacher🔥
@elliotthundley takes us inside his painting “Creation”, where a childhood memory of his mother becomes something almost mythological. We talk about the connection between parenting, creativity, and the people who first teach us how to see the world.

Art on the ranch, @sarah_miska brings the western Horse Heat to LA🔥

Fun fact, I grew up on a farm and these paintings are legit. Sarah’s precision and perspective of these familiar Americana subjects feels so fresh and fun. Exquisite detail, cropping and feeling to these heaters.

More blazing heat from #johnbaldessari 🔥🔥🔥

By clapping loud in proximity to the inside of the trumpet a series of classical music recordings are triggered and play through a hidden speaker. John clearly was in a creative league all his own.

Artist @elliotthundley has a refreshing take on finding your audience: start with one person🔥

Rather than trying to appeal to everyone, Elliott talks about building connections gradually, beginning with the people you care about and discovering what resonates.

Elliott has a heater of a show up at @regenprojects until October 24th, a must see in LA.

Prayer telescopes and saint tanks, the sci-fi spiritual heat of @turboglitchy🔥

We swung by @sebastiangladstone to scope these wild sculptures and got a chance to talk with the artist Emmanuel Desir himself. These sculptures are both robust, whimsical, and otherworldly interlaced with biblical and religious undertones. There’s fantasy and humanity wrapped up in everything. Really enjoyed these🔥

What if uncertainty is actually a sign you’re on the right path?

LA-based artist @elliotthundley is known for his extraordinary, three-dimensional collages that weave together photography, painting, sculpture, and mythology. With decades of experience and work in major museum collections, he’s developed a thoughtful perspective on the creative process.

Here, Elliott shares some wisdom about trusting your own path, resisting comparison, and seeing inexperience as an opportunity rather than a limitation.

A little advice that extends well beyond the art world.
