it’s been 6 days since my grandma flew in from HK. since then we’ve conversed about love, philosophy, buddhism, music, generational trauma, just to name a few. despite our language barrier (her good english and my subpar cantonese), i find myself bonding with her in ways i never realized that were vital to my heart and mental wellbeing.day 1. told me stories about her great loveday 2. took a walk with me in the early morningday 3. taught her how to play chess and she BEAT me?!day 4-5. greeted me gently as i headed on with my busy days day 6. watched the new avatar trailer togetheri grew up feeling quite lonesome and it led me to have a hard shell. hearing my lovely Rose Chan speak and conduct herself with so much grace through our relationship has opened myself up to a different type of love and care little by little.as i’m typing this up on my couch with my mom scrolling through AI reddit narrator videos, my grandma learning how to play piano virtually, and my dad asking me if i want to see the new dog he’s training, i’m feeling a pleasant uneasiness in my gut and my throat. an uneasiness i could see myself warming up to. i hope this quiet feeling grows and i hope this love lasts in my life. by @friedbottles
