Couple single shots of a Dogbane beetle (Chrysochus auratus). One of the most vibrant and striking beetles we get in these parts. It uses its diet as a defense against predators, consuming the leaves of Dogbane, which are quite toxic. It is uniquely adapted to consume Apocynum without issues.

Peep this beautiful Caloboletus. I call this species C. roseipes. Check out that gorgeous reticulation. Very distinct. Very few boletes in this region feature yellow reticulation. Butyriboletus brunneus can look very similar, and grows alongside this Caloboletus in conifer woods. The former being an excellent edible, and the Caloboletus being horribly bitter.

A picture perfect Entoloma murrayi, a summer lover of swampy areas. Also known as the yellow unicorn Entoloma, due to its super pointy umbonate cap. Which you can just barely see here.

This slimy Sunday features a push pin party. Immature Hemitrichia calyculata, aka push pin or yellow fuzz slime mold. This is the species I posted the other week much earlier in its life. They have such incredible colors and textures, so much range for one species.

Get a load of this otherworldly creature. A bucket list find for me
The Brown Wasp Mantidfly (Climaciella brunnea)

Mantidflies are in the order Neuroptera, net winged insects, along with Lacewings. This species is a paper wasp mimic and looks pretty terrifying, though lacks the ability to sting. It was honestly pretty chill and a great subject. Super stoked to find it chilling on milkweed last night.

Neoboletus!! My all time favorite genus of bolete. These specimens have so much beautiful detail to take in. Neoboletus have some of the most variable morphology of any bolete, or maybe even mushroom as a whole.
