Welcome to all our new followers! 🌸 We’d love to take a moment to reintroduce ourselves.

We’re Laura and Rebecca, the friends behind Friendly City Florals, a nonprofit based in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on a mission to share the healing power of flowers with our community. We donate repurposed event and locally grown flowers to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, mental health centers, public service workers, and other community nonprofits 🌷

Our journey began when we found meaning in growing flowers during the pandemic. After connecting through our kids’ preschool, college friendships, and our shared personal losses, we knew we wanted to turn that passion into something more meaningful.

Our mission is rooted in wellness and healing, but we also prioritize sustainability. By repurposing flowers using eco-friendly practices, we’re reducing waste and caring for the world we live in.

Justin and Maria shared the flowers from their beautiful September wedding with residents at VMRC’s Park Place. There was lots of ooh-ing and aah-ing when residents came to pick up a vase of flowers for themselves and to share with friends. Thank you to everyone who made this donation possible, from @bouquetsandbustles who introduced us to the wonderful couple and all of our volunteers! by @friendlycityflorals

Last week’s RMH flowers got a beautiful second life! 💐

Thank you to @lorisgifts with Sentara RMH for continuing to share flowers with us. The JMU GIVE group helped repurpose them into fresh bouquets, which were then delivered to clients at Pleasant View, Inc. 🤍 by @friendlycityflorals

A rainy September night, a new venue for us, and one stunning wedding donation. 🤍

After V & S celebrated at Eastwood Farm & Winery, our volunteers braved the rain for a late-night pickup of their incredible florals by @fleuressence.floraldesign - look at that floral arch! 😍

By the next day, their wedding flowers had a whole new life, bringing joy to clients at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board 💐 by @friendlycityflorals

Our DIY buckets in action! 💐

One of our volunteers took home a DIY bucket last week and turned it into beautiful bouquets for Adagio House. 🤍

And it looks like she had the cutest little helper!! 🥹🌸

We had a great time at VMRC this week sharing all about Friendly City Florals!

It was so much fun talking about how FCF came to be, giving a little peek behind the scenes, and talking about the flowers, volunteers, and community that make it all possible.

One of our favorite parts of FCF is getting to meet new people and share more about what we do. We love visiting Rotary clubs, garden clubs, senior living communities, schools, and other groups around the area. If you have a group that would enjoy hearing more about FCF, send us a message. Sometimes we get to hear what happens after the flowers leave us, and those stories are our favorite. 💐

One of our recent bouquets made its way to Dona, a resident at Sunnyside. When she received it, she kept saying, “These flowers are so beautiful.”

We learned that before moving to Sunnyside, Dona had a vibrant garden of her own. Maybe that’s why this bouquet felt extra special!

We were honored to receive funeral flowers from the Eagle family in memory of former Harrisonburg Mayor Rodney Eagle. 💐

These blooms were repurposed into bouquets and delivered to Legacy Hospice, continuing his legacy of care for our community. We’re so grateful to the Eagle family for allowing us to give these beautiful flowers a second life. 🤍 by @friendlycityflorals

What a great morning repurposing with volunteers from LD&B Insurance! 💐 We worked our way through a big wedding donation and a funeral donation, turning so many beautiful flowers into bouquets ready to bring joy around our community.
