Revisiting the 2014 Hacienda López de Haro “Classica” Gran Reserva, a blend of 80% Viura, 15% Malvasía and 5% Garnacha Blanca from Rioja Alta, Spain. Lemon peel, dried apple, chamomile, toasted almond and beeswax. Textured and layered, with citrus, almond and brioche, fresh acidity and a long, slightly oxidative finish. Aged 24 months in mostly American oak and produced only in exceptional vintages. At 12 years old, clearly in no hurry. 2010 R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva Blanco, a blend of 90% Viura and 10% Malvasía from Rioja Alta. Almost two decades in, still showing remarkable power and freshness. A great reminder of just how resilient Tondonia Blanco can be. Lemon curd, toasted hazelnuts, dried apricot and beeswax on the nose. Full-bodied and layered, with preserved citrus, honey and gentle oak, that unmistakable Tondonia texture and an elegant finish that just keeps going. Fermented with native yeasts in old oak vats and aged six years in the estate’s own barrels. Decanting is a must, but the evolution doesn’t stop there. Part of the experience is watching the wine transform in the glass as time does its work. Drinking beautifully now and still with plenty of life ahead. 2019 Série Ímpar Sercialinho. 100% Sercialinho from Quinta de Pedralvites in Anadia, Bairrada. Sercialinho, a rare cross between Uva Cão and Vital, is part of Sogrape’s Série Ímpar, a collection exploring rare varieties and distinctive winemaking projects. Sogrape, one of Portugal’s leading wine producers, has just 2.5 hectares planted at the estate. On the nose, passion fruit, elderflower and honey. Full-bodied, fresh and creamy on the palate, with citrus and grapefruit, vibrant acidity and a long finish. An amazing bottle and one of my favorites of the year. 2018 and 2022 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, with four years separating the two vintages. I enjoy Caymus with a decade or more of bottle age, when the ripe fruit begins to take on more mature, savory notes. The 2018 is beginning to move in that direction, while the 2022, released for Caymus’ 50th Anniversary, remains youthful, rich and fruit driven. 2024 Diniz Cabral Vinhos Maria Primeira Syrah, from Sul de Minas Gerais, Brazil, sourced from vineyards in Boa Esperança, Três Corações and São Gonçalo do Sapucaí. Another Brazilian Colheita de Inverno Syrah. Dark plum and blackberry on the nose, with floral notes, black pepper and a touch of smoke. Dark fruit on the palate, good acidity and soft tannins. Fresh, youthful, smooth and elegant, with a delicate, slightly peppery finish. Already very approachable and drinking nicely at this young stage.

2024 Casa Geraldo Reserva Syrah, from the Serra da Mantiqueira region in Andradas, Minas Gerais, Brazil. 100% Syrah produced as a Colheita de Inverno, using double pruning to shift the harvest from summer to winter. Dark fruit, ripe plum, black pepper and a touch of smoke on the nose. Blackberry, plum and spice on the palate, full-bodied, with mature tannins and a long finish. Aged primarily in stainless steel, with 20% spending 12 months in French oak. 95 points and Gold Medal at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards. 2023 Ercoara Maná Syrah, from the high-altitude Cerrado of Brazil’s Planalto Central. This is a Brazilian winter wine, “Colheita de Inverno,” where the grapes are harvested during the dry, sunny winter months instead of the traditional summer harvest. A very interesting expression of Syrah from an unexpected Brazilian terroir.
Dark fruit, blackberry, violet and pepper on the nose. Black fruit and plum on the palate, with spice, good freshness and firm tannins. Medium to full-bodied, with a lingering spicy finish. Still young and opened up nicely with time in the glass.

2014 Antinori Solaia, Toscana, produced at the Tignanello estate in Chianti Classico, a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc. Black cherry, plum, dried herbs, leather and tobacco on the nose. Ripe dark fruit, licorice, spice and a touch of earth on the palate. Elegant and balanced, still fresh after over a decade, with years ahead and a long finish. Aged 18 months in all-new French oak barrels. First produced by the Antinori family in 1978, Solaia is made only in exceptional vintages. 2007 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley. At almost 20 years old and drinking beautifully now. Cassis, blackberry, tobacco, cedar and leather on the nose. Dark fruit and blackcurrant on the palate, with subtle spice and earthy notes. Full-bodied, with integrated tannins and a long, seductive finish. Hovering at its peak, with a few years ahead of pure enjoyment. TBT to the 2026 James Suckling’s Great Wines of the World Miami Edition and Besserat de Bellefon Cuvée Brigitte Bardot. 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, aged five years on the lees. Created as a tribute to Brigitte Bardot, with her signature on the gold bottle. A nice combination of Champagne and French pop culture. Ishizuchi Shinsei Daiginjo Fukurozuri Shizuku, an exquisite sake made with Yamadanishiki from Hyogo’s Special A district, polished to 35%. After fermentation, the sake is hung in special linen bags and allowed to filter naturally by gravity, with only the resulting drops collected and bottled. Pear on the nose. Smooth and elegant on the palate, with delicate melon, nice freshness and a touch of spice leading into a medium, dry finish. Drinking beautifully.
