Are septic tanks cloaked in the invisibility shield of an SEP field?
Whether you're renting; a home owner; or managing a holiday property - dispelling the mystery of septic tanks could help you help the river.

Starting TUESDAY 20th October.
How can you help The River Dart at home?
Join our information sharing events on the current health of our River Dart and actions each of us can take to make a real difference.
Some of what harms the river starts in ordinary homes like yours and ours; the sink, the loo, the drive, the dog…And all of it is so easy to change!

Find the registration for our free online Household Information Series linked in stories.

With thanks to Devon Environment Foundation and the Environment Agency for their support. This year’s work has also been made possible with donations from Frederick Mulder Foundation, The Dow Clewer Foundation, Dart Harbour & Navigation Authority and our Friends of the Dart supporters.

Please send any enquiries to holly@friendsofthedart.org.

Here is just a glimpse into the work that @friendsofthedart do!

They have just been featured in @guardian shining a light on the pollution going into the Dart and holding the water companies accountable.

Can you believe that @southwestwater has spilled 823 hours worth of sewage across the South West and have been fined £7.8 million pounds!

By coming along to the Celebration day on Sunday 11th October 12 - 8pm, you can support their fabulous work.

An update from our Friends of the Dart S W Friends of the Rivers project. This week we brought over 30 people from 18 river and coastal community groups from across Devon and Cornwall together for the first time in an online listening session. It was a great event and wonderful to have so many energised people in the room together for the first time.

Groups shared what would make the biggest practical difference to their work, and what they wish they could do but can’t do alone. Themes that came through strongly included the need for a collective voice with South West Water and statutory bodies, the challenge of interpreting EA data, and the appetite to share monitoring data across catchments.

What struck me most was how much common ground there was between groups who have never been in the same room before — from the Helford to the Tamar to the Teign, so many of the same frustrations and the same determination.

We are really looking forward to the next steps, bringing everyone together for in-person workshops in the coming weeks — watch this space! If your group isn’t yet involved and you’d like to find out more, get in touch.

The South West Friends of the Rivers project is exploring opportunities for river and coastal community groups across Devon and Cornwall to collaborate and build on existing efforts to advocate for our rivers and coastal areas. The project is funded by the People’s Postcode Lottery and the National Lottery Community Fund. commissioned by Friends of the Dart in partnership with Friends of the Teign. #communityaction #river by @friendsofthedart
