The City of #Vista tied its all-time highest recorded temperature Saturday as an early-October heat wave sent temperatures soaring across the #SouthernCalifornia region.

The temperature in Vista reached 108 degrees on October 3, tying the highest temperature recorded in the city since records began in 1957, according to the National Weather Service. The previous record for the date was 104 degrees, set in 1987.

Other North County communities also experienced record heat. Escondido reached 103 degrees, breaking its previous October 3 record of 102 degrees set in 1987. Oceanside Harbor climbed to 101 degrees, shattering its previous daily record of 94 degrees, also set in 1987. Ramona reached 99 degrees, tying its daily record set in 2020.

The heat is expected to persist through much of the week, with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect for coastal and inland North County through 8 p.m. Thursday. Temperatures are expected to gradually ease as the week progresses, with more significant cooling arriving by Friday and Saturday. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day, seek air-conditioned spaces when possible and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

We opened 6 boxes of fabrics today and this beautiful Kaffe is one of my favorites. 4.5 yards went to a quilter in Carlsbad to finish the back of her lovely quilt. It was a perfect match. #quilt #quilting #sew #sewing #fabric by @friendsofvista

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman in #Vista Wednesday night.

The assault occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the 2100 block of East Vista Way. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 29-year-old female was walking to her vehicle when a stranger ran up behind her and sexually assaulted her.

The woman fought back and was eventually able to escape from the suspect. Authorities described the suspect as a man believed to be 20 years old, standing about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. He was wearing all black clothing and a black ski mask at the time of the assault. His race is unknown, and investigators said there are no other known physical identifiers.

Detectives responded to the scene and canvassed the surrounding area for additional witnesses and evidence. Investigators believe the suspect was a stranger to the victim and are now asking anyone who may have information that could help identify or locate him to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Sexual Assault Unit at 858-285-6112 or, after hours, at 858-868-3200. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
