I dont have as many photos of him because he's getting so fast at zoomies 😂 by @friendsonfirst

Say hello to our newest fosters Cleo (tabby) and Jefferson (black). These siblings came from the same backyard breeder that our previous foster Flux came from so they are likely from the same parents. Like Flux, they arrived infested with fleas so they immediately got a bath and numerous comb throughs with a flea comb. However unlike Flux, these babies were far too young to be away from their mother. We were told they were 9 weeks but going by their teeth and weight, they were likely about 4-5 weeks old.

We noticed in particular that Cleo's eyesight wasnt as developed as Jeff's though it should continue improving as she grows. Jeff weighed about 580g when we took him in whereas Cleo only weighed 420g! These cuties are by far the smallest fosters I've had but it's so amazing to watch them grow more every day with Jeff having gained about 160g and Cleo gaining 90g in the past week. We are now feeding them separately to ensure Cleo gets enough food.

These special babies will not be ready for new homes for another few weeks as we work on getting them to healthy weights and being fully litter trained. In the meantime, their confidence is growing every day and they now love zooming around the living room and learning how to play with their toys. We'll also be continuing to socialize them with Rosie and the resident cats as well as strangers so they can be confident in their future homes.

It's officially been one month since we brought Rosie home from her emergency vet stay. We are so happy to say that Rosie's recent bloodwork has shown massive improvements for her liver. We still have a little bit to go before it's "normal" so she is still on liver support and antibiotics for now.

Our next step will be for her to see a cardiologist in the coming months to take a closer look at her enlarged heart. She'll also need another ultrasound in a few months to monitor the mass in her spleen and make sure it doesnt grow or change because we weren't able to get it tested safely. This girl has been through hell and back and I will forever be in awe at how resilient she is.

I will forever be so so grateful for this community of amazing humans who kept checking in on us, sent loving messages, donated to Rosie's GoFundMe and shared her story.

My care cards state that 95% of sale proceeds go towards my pets and well, truer words have never been spoken at this point. I've made these little cups in honour of Rosie's continuous journey and fight, and to help go toward her ongoing vet bills - aptly named Rosie's Cups. They're the perfect size for your tea, espresso, dips or snacks. You will be able to find these at @shopmakers_metrotown and @shopmakers_kitsilano ❤

Our 2025 ended on a very stressful note.

Shortly after Christmas, we brought Rosie in to the vet thinking she just had a stonach bug but found she was having a lot of stuff happening in her body. She had a slow irregular pulse and enlarged heart, a narrowing in her spine, a small mass in her spleen, her gall bladder was surrounded by some liquid, she had pancreatitis, liver failure which caused jaundice and gas build up in her colon.

She had to be admitted to emergency for IV fluids and more diagnostics. After a CT scan confirmed no tumors or blockages, they've determined its most likely a bad gall bladder infection that caused the pancreatitis which in turn affected the liver. The heart may or may not be related and the spine is likely a breed and age issue. The spleen is likely a completely separate thing and they cant tell if the mass is benign or not without further testing.

So far we have spent about $12.5k on her diagnostics and care and will need to keep bringing her in for more tests and supportive medication. She's slowly showing more energy through the day but our main focus right now is to let her rest and making sure she eats so that her antibiotics don't upset her stomach.

If you have the capacity at all, our amazing friend @noc_ceramics has helped us set up a GoFundMe for her vet bills and ongoing care - the link is in our bio. We are also working on some fundraising pottery pieces at @mudlab.ca and the sales will go towards Rosie's ongoing care. An update will be posted on @mildtofuceramics once they are ready. Even sharing Rosie's story is very much appreciated and I always read her all of the lovely messages we get 🥹

We are SO thankful for the huge community of people rooting for Rosie. We love this little pup so much and just want to give her the best chance of living her best life ❤ by @friendsonfirst

Meet Chip (calico) and Sam (black) our two new resident kitties. They are originally from Australia where they grew up on a farm but made their way over to Canada with their dad and have now settled into our little home.

Cairo has never met another adult cat but the fact that he's always so good with our foster kittens gave me hope that he would be ok with his new roomies. We did all the things - meds, cat nip, kept separate for the first week, slow intros and a feliway diffuser. We also got new cat trees so it would be a neutral smell for the cats to hang out on.

I think its safe to say the efforts paid off. There's been a few hisses and swats but everybody is otherwise getting along great and we've even caught Sam and Cairo playing together. We will get back into fostering after the holidays after we've all had a chance to settle in ❤ We are so happy to have these babies join our family.

Rosie and I had so much fun dressing up at the studio this week. Who says work can't be fun? 🎃

Which costume was your favourite?

ADOPTED ❤

Happy Sunday from our current foster kitten Flux!

This handsome little guy came to us from an overcrowded home. We gave him a gentle bath and first vet visit and now he is looking for his furever home! Flux is approximately 8-9 weeks old. He's a very social, curious and playful kitten. He LOVES to zoom around playing with toys or his foster siblings Rosie and Cairo. Flux also becomes to most cuddly kitten with the biggest purrs when he's tired and would love to snuggle up with you or nap in your lap. He would do well with another playful fur sibling but could also be fine on his own if you'll indulge in his playtimes.

DM for more info ❤

This adorable little guy is Rusty, our newest foster. We don't know his full history as he was found as a stray but he is estimated to be around 1 year old and is very nervous around new people. He becomes the sweetest, most cuddly little velcro dog once he warms up to you. This perfect little pup is an absolute dream - he is house trained, pretty mellow, dog and cat friendly and is very quiet. He'd be a fantastic little apartment pup! Rusty will be looking for a home that can be patient and teach him to feel safe and confident.

#latepost but this is Pugsly (now named Fergus) our latest foster friend! He came up from California where he was found as a stray. He is such a sweet and goofy little guy that he was scooped up right away by our friends! As a foster mom its such a blessing when people in my network adopt my fosters because then I get to watch them settle into their new lives, grow up and be their best confident selves. You can follow Fergus and his new brothers at @friendsbytheriver ❤

Rosie arrived on a cold rainy evening. I already had another foster but was asked to take this "last minute pup" that they got on their transport from Mexico. When I went downstairs to meet the other volunteer, she pulled this tiny ball of fur from her jacket and told me, "she wouldn't stop shaking" before driving off.

I quickly cradled her to try to give her warmth and immediately noticed that I could feel the bumps of her spine and hip bones in my hands. I got hit with the strong smell of stale urine and indeed she wouldn't stop shaking. I put her down onto a patch of grass in case she needed to pee but she just stood in the same spot trembling. I decided the priority was to get her to warmth rather than not having accidents on my floor so I brought her upstairs.

I immediately gave her a warm bath followed by a choppy haircut to remove as much yellow fur and mats that I could while she just fell asleep in my lap. As she slept I messaged the rescue asking if I could please, PLEASE adopt this one. I had fostered many dogs before this but with her I felt like I need to be her home. I needed her as much as she needed me.

I still needed to fill out an adoption form but the rescue said I can change her name if I'd like. I wanted something pretty, girly and sweet to counter the rough condition she was currently in. I decided on Rosie and the next day bought a tiny grey jacket with little roses on it for her.

For the first couple months, Rosie would always sit and wait for me outside of the shower. I remember how bittersweet it was when she stopped because I always loved seeing her tiny little face staring back at me if I opened the curtain but at the same time it made me realize she finally felt safe at home and confident that I wouldn't leave her.

Watching a dog find their confidence and start to feel safe will forever be one of the most fulfilling experiences for me. Humans failed Rosie to the point where her teeth and fur were in horrid condition and she was very underweight yet she still let me gain her trust and now I can ensure she'll never be let down again 🥹
