New York City band @79point5 released their self-titled sophomore album on May 5. It’s a beautiful blend of 70s disco, Midwest electro-funk and harmonious soul that lovers of A Taste of Honey, Chic, and Prince will adore. 🌸

The group has just begun its spring tour across the US.

Just before they set off, singer-songwriter Kate Mattison (@sister__k8) and singer-rapper Lola Adanna (@lola.adanna) told Fringe Frequency a bit about the journey to create their second album, what they’re most excited about with their US tour, whether we might get to see them live in Europe, and why they wanted to make an album about femininity and self-belief.

Visit our website for the full interview. See the link in our bio.

79.5 is available to stream now on all major streaming services on @razorntape.

Alternative pop artist @emzaemusic is wrestling with life’s great expectations on her relatable new single ‘I Guess, Anyway’.

Fading dreams and the uncertainty of this chaotic modern age, particularly for young people, is what she sings of in this rolling, six-minute hit of melancholy pop.

“I wanted to write a big ballad as a centrepiece for the album. Something that conveyed everything I was feeling as a woman in her mid-late 20s, trying to navigate this messed up world we find ourselves in,” said Emzae about her new single.

“I hope it might connect with anyone who thought they knew where they were heading and grew up being told anything was possible for them, but now find themselves questioning it all.”

‘I Guess, Anyway’ is the first single from the Derby artist’s forthcoming debut album, All Those Things I Thought I Knew, which she wrote and produced herself, and will release on her own label later this year. This Friday (April 14), Emzae will share a music video, filmed with help from her fellow artist and creative assistant Madison Fiorenza.

All Those Things I Thought I Knew is due to be released on September 1 on Zirconia Records. Limited edition vinyl is available to pre-order on Emzae’s website.

Happy International Women’s Day. And happy Women’s History Month. 💗

This quote is by North Carolina rapper @Rapsody, speaking to Genius in August 2019.

Between her phenomenal verse on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Complexion (A Zulu Love)’ and her album Eve (which was inspired by, and pays tribute to, influential black women), Rapsody has been giving us a lot of life lately.

Everytime IWD and other days like it come round, we’re reminded that being yourself is not easy in this life. So, big shout to all the amazing women and girls who continue to inspire us, help us, and support us in this thing we call life.

In 2022, we asked friends, followers and folks from the creative community to celebrate a woman or girl who has helped or inspired them. You can check that feature out on our website – this was a lot of fun, and we will do this again.

Why not celebrate #IWD2023 by sharing a woman or girl who has inspired or helped you in your own life?

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dave ‘Trugoy the Dove’ Jolicoeur of @weareDeLaSoul. He was a titan of hip hop and a powerful presence in music.

Trugoy was, and is, an irreplaceable part of the culture.

His impact on hip hop with De La Soul - alongside his friends Posdnos (Kevin Mercer) and Maceo (Vincent Mason) - cannot be understated. Their early albums - especially 3 Feet High and Rising and De La Soul is Dead - pushed hip hop in a new direction and opened people’s minds to this new sound.

There are too many incredible songs to mention from his time working with Prince Paul, J Dilla and A Tribe Called Quest to name just a few.

Trugoy continued to be a pioneer throughout his life: collaborating with Gorillaz for their international smash ‘Feel Good Inc’, writing and recording with dozens of artists (from Queen Latifah to Handsome Boy Modeling School to Little Dragon), blessing film soundtracks and the video games (PaRappa the Rapper 2) with original music, and bringing his get-down-and-party-with-us-or-get-outta-here energy to stages all over the world.

His playful wordplay, his fierce strength of character, and his grace in always staying true to himself and his loved ones should not be forgotten. He was a beautiful soul.

Rest in power, Trugoy the Dove. 🙏🏾🕊️
