One of my dearest friends is an incredible artist and I am taking her intro to oil painting class. It feels a bit vulnerable to start something like painting at my big age 👵 I am having such a blast, learning so many things, and in a weird way it makes me feel like a kid again. I spent so much of my childhood coloring, drawing, making my parents Christmas presents out of paper towel rolls and the plastic wrap from the morning newspaper 😅 I think I started to lose that part of myself somewhere along the way, but I've been working really hard to break free from that "I'm running out of time" mentality. It's never too late to start over or pick up a new skill. Stay tuned and hopefully I will get better with lots and lots of practice 🎨 @shannonvaughtart @walnutstreetatelier

Formerly nightly_notions here, it's been a while. Life has gotten the best of me the past few years and against my better judgement I've let it stifle my creativity. When you're always running on empty, it feels like an impossible task to make it from one day to the next, let alone write a poem or paint a portrait. I have always wanted to do a little bit of everything, and between the chaos of the world and the chaos in my brain, I've spent too much time doing a whole lot of nothing. I want this account to be a place of exploration, rediscovering things I know I love, and finding new love for things I haven't had the courage to try. Whether it be writing, drawing, painting, sculpting, taking photos, I cannot be me if I am not bringing something to life. I thought if I couldn't be great at a particular medium, there was no point in trying, but I think if you find even a shred of joy in the process, anything is worth pursuing whether you're great or simply having a great time doing it. I'll share little creations and stories here when I feel up to it, and I encourage everyone else to take the adventure or try the new hobby, we all deserve a little extra joy in this life.

Also on a fun note, I visited Alaska last month and it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. This poem is heavily inspired by that trip. When you get a glimpse of what's out there, it's hard to return to a place and a routine you're not particularly fond of. (Peep me at a glacier in the last slide 🏔)
