How do you thank someone for trusting and believing in you and your work enough to trust you with their name and their treasure?

What words are there for the way that belief and trust steadies you? Fuels you? Carries you?

There aren’t.

What you do, I think, is infuse that belief and trust into making something they would be proud of. Something that takes their gift, multiplies it, and offers it back to God and his people.

I was a super fan of @beaheartdesign and @ericatighecampbell for exactly forever before I summoned the courage to ask if 𝘉𝘦 𝘈 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 could be the main sponsor of our first-ever fundraising dinner.

Y’all the way I did LAPS of joy around our tiny living room when the answer was, “yes!”

We never saw it coming. Becoming a founder wasn’t on a 10 year plan, it wasn’t on any list of dream jobs, it wasn’t something we thought we were even remotely qualified for.⁣
⁣
What happened in every case was that we noticed a need, a gap, a place where something was missing and we shakily, awkwardly, and in a lot of ways—naively—jumped in. ⁣
⁣
In 2020 I began to notice a couple of gaps in popular Catholic media. The first gap I noticed was that not a lot of it was reflective of the universality of the Church. The Church is made up of a vast and wide kaleidoscope of people who have such a wonderful range of experiences of faith and wisdom—and back then, I wasn’t seeing or hearing from that expansive range.⁣
⁣
The second gap—the one that hunted and haunted me throughout two years of discernment—was the gap that left out the messy middle. ⁣
⁣
More and more I was seeing media that was modeled after secular spaces, media that seemed not only comfortable with either/or dichotomies, but seemed to 𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 them: left/right, traditional/social justice, Latin/Novus Ordo. A lot of the Catholic media picked a lane on one side or the other and then created according to that singular lens.⁣
⁣
The problem was, for two years I had been meeting with all sorts of folks over zoom to talk of things of faith and 𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘶𝘴 were neat and tidy enough for either/or. We were constantly wrestling, searching, stretching. We loved the Church and we loved our Neighbor and we didn’t want to pick sides. We called ourselves the messy middle: deeply Catholic, profoundly grateful for tenets and traditions, while at the same time totally bent on following the command to love the people of the world. We wanted both/and. And we couldn’t find much of it. ⁣

That place. That gap. That is where I jumped. ⁣
⁣
In 2022, From Here Media became a nonprofit and we haven’t looked back. These days, it is a lot less hard to live in the messy middle. Turns out, this place is one of integration. We neither leave our Church or the world Jesus’ came to save out of our hearts. Both/and is a beautiful place to be. � by @from_here_org

Okay hear me out. WHAT IF every single parish in every single diocese in every single state hosted THREE marriage check-ins a year?

3 times a year.

Every. Single. Year.

Where husbands and a wives would just come to a parish (any parish—because remember ALL parishes would host these), and maybe have a little prayer prayed over them and then they just had TIME to sit together, check-in with one another and connect.

Marriage maintenance. Like changing the oil in your car every 5,000 miles to keep it running and not burning out.

Marriage Check-ins. Not therapy. Not retreats. Not book studies. Just the Church saying: come, connect to one another, to Jesus, to your Sacrament.

On the latest episode of Universal Voices, my husband and I chat about how I came to this big dream and what three topics we think would be great to have time to check-in about.

Ours were:
1. A communication check-in.
2. A pastoral NFP check-in. Pastoral as in couples walking along each other. (I get pretty feisty about what I think this should and SHOULD NOT entail 😂)
3. A Faith check-in.

What about you? If the Church hosted check-ins where you and your spouse had more than twenty-two seconds of uninterrupted time to connect around a topic, what topic would you pick? by @from_here_org

So many of you *truly* wonderful folks have shared with me that you wish you could be in Austin for our Flourish event*.
⁣
And I’m all like: I WISH IT TOO! 🥺😭♥️⁣
⁣
I know we will feel your presence and prayers from afar.⁣
⁣
To give folks a way to both support the event and be present in a tangible way, we have created 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦 as a companion event running the entire month of September. ⁣
⁣
All flowers at the event in Austin (roses, dahlias, sunflowers, and hydrangeas 😍) will visually represent these folks who send their love, support, and encouragement over the miles. Donors will also have their names placed at the event so that attendees can feel connected to our wider community. ⁣
⁣
If you donate in honor or memory of someone, their name too, will be listed. ⁣
⁣
We love you and are so grateful for all the ways you are connected to us.

Several years ago, I was in the midst of a raging internal battle in which I was trying to beat back the notion that I needed to be found 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘵. ⁣
⁣
It was weird because I was well into my “I’m beloved by God” Era and had long since left the idea that I needed to 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 my worth, behind. ⁣
⁣
It was about that time I heard the following in a homily at daily Mass:⁣
⁣
𝘉𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺. ⁣

These words changed everything for me. ⁣

It was like I was given a permission slip to wander the halls of the world loving God and Neighbor and Self without the weight of looking around to see if the hall monitors were gonna give me a gold star or not. ⁣

You and me? We are faithful in a thousand hidden ways every day. Only those ways aren’t hidden to God at all. ⁣
