We’re happy to see A4 Ancestor by @ooonekey held in numerous public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The British Library, New York University Libraries and others!

A4 Ancestor reimagines the legendary journey of the paper seller traveling from Samarkand to Baghdad, tracing the origins of paper and the transmission of written culture.

Limited copies are available from Makan as well as @new_high_land, the imprint co-founded by @ooonekey, the artist behind A4 Ancestor!

@frommakan Makan, the publishing imprint of Creative Practices ’24 alum, @ibiibrahim is pleased to announce the release of Desert Notes, a new photobook by artist and fellow Creative Practices ’24 alum, @samanthakjensen. Bringing together portraiture, landscape, still life, and scanned journal entries from the artist’s travels, Desert Notes retraces the route of the 19th-century Survey of the Colorado River of the West, approaching the desert as a living archive shaped by absence, extraction, and instability.

Congrats to Samantha and Ibi on the release of Desert Notes. by @frommakan

What a weekend 💘

Thank you to everyone who came by our table, and especially to those who patiently waited to look through the books. To see the table so full all weekend—people looking through books, talking with artists, and familiar faces coming back—was so special ❣️

AND the New York wall! A celebration of Arabic calligraphy and a shared love for language, letters, and color 🟡🔵🔴 seeing the posters leave the wall and go home with so many of you was a joy!

NYABF, you really are the fair of all fairs!

See you at the next one 💘 taken in MoMA PS1 by @frommakan

❣️نيويورك ❣️

out table in New York. Books, editions, objects, and a wall celebrating Arabic calligraphy and the many ways a single word can take form. New York, written across traditions — from classical Ruqʿah, Naskh, Diwani, Kufic, Thuluth, and Nastaliq to Ijazah and more contemporary interpretations!

amid a year of shared milestones— 50 years of Printed Matter, 20 years of the New York Art Book Fair — we mark our own: Makan’s second year and the launch of our 10th title!

Makan is pleased to announce the launch of Everything I Can Offer to the World at This Moment by Angela Lian. Bringing together stills from performances and videos, collages, drawings, and text, the book is rooted in the body—its limits, repetitions, and capacity for care.

Everything I Can Offer to the World at This Moment officially launches tomorrow at NYABF as part of Makan’s participation at the fair @printedmatter_artbookfairs 💙 A book signing with Angela Lian will be held on Saturday (9/26) at 2pm.
