Research-experiential project with the aim of responding to the request for an Elsewhere: REM are the battlefield for the protection of the sacred

Cavagrande del Cassibile is mother and daughter, in an infinite cycle of generations she changes and discovers herself: she is a metaphor for the metamorphosis of planet earth.

The great sea of fire unfolds at every sunrise and sunset in Cavagrande, and we, immersed, trapped, resurrected in these celestial sounds, give thanks.

There is a series of caves on one side of the Cavagrande canyon, presumably built by the Sicilians, which generate a troglodyte-type rock dwelling complex.

The cave was used by the Arabs to tan the skins (hence the name Cunziria) and by brigands as a refuge.

The road to gain access to the cave is not marked, you have to look for it and find it: it will open up and show the bold and reckless and tenacious.
The cave complex invites domesticity, the order that man designs in seeking familiar forms to take refuge.
The view of the canyon is formidable.

We thought it could be a great [lost] airbnb. by @fronte.rem

The descent to Cavagrande takes place via the scala cruci path traveled every summer by tens of thousands of people: the path, officially closed, is a pilgrimage and a baptism: the sacred and inaccessible waters in the heart of the belly are reached by suffering and fighting against the high temperatures and the winding, steep and tiring road.

Here the text we interpreted during our performance.

1 _entrance
winding start
descend stop (and ascend)
this is the cycle
this is the pace
contemplate survival
sacrifice
what's your step?
go and be yours now
and as you go what are you?
where is yours now?
remember to abstract
hold to anticipate

2 _hillside crossroads
you are expected
Attention
exciting choice
hanging from the balance of landslides and floods
captivated by the imagination
you observe your arrival
prepare the breath in the pause
will come in return
the question
tough wife
in falling
of the days

3 _among the vegetation
welcome to the abyss
where intentions come together
in the quarry
in the belly
in the basin
fertile death
immerse yourself and contemplate
as in the sacrifice you were reborn
ask at the end
what was that

We have chosen as a point of view on the path that traditionally allows you to reach the heart of the canyon, traveled by tens of thousands of people in the summer, a house illegally built on the overhanging edge of Cavagrande.

We wrote "A.KA": the actions you plan to anticipate the future, decompress it and steer towards preferable scenarios, making chaos habitable.

The mural was captured by google maps satellites, which immortalized a moment of its expected whitening process.

The squat was inhabited by our intentions, and became the basis and starting point for subsequent explorations. by @fronte.rem

The first activity was the reactivation of a now abandoned historic path to reach the famous lakes formed by the Cassibile river in the heart of the Cavagrande canyon.

Based on the little information available regarding the "scala porci" path, we took the characteristic staircase that marks its beginning.
But shortly afterwards the spontaneous vegetation had devoured both us explorers and the remains and traces of the path. We were lost, swimming in an ocean of insects and plants.

The day was timidly and fortunately grey.
No excessive heat has scorched us or the route taken.
No rain overwhelmed both.

We hurried back to square one after a day of injuries. by @fronte.rem

Exploration undertaken in August 2020 with a performance and activity system under the name of “A.KA: azioni kaos abitabile" (habitable chaos actions).
We have identified Cavagrande as the place to deposit and found the first platform with which to observe an unstable changing world on the horizon.

The platform, placed on the borderline between the known and the unknown, is a metaphor for comments and criticisms of the issues that define Cavagrande as the active belly of Sicily.

Various civilizations have taken refuge in Cavagrande, the human genome has intertwined stories with multi-specific natures: this reservoir of bodily knowledge has been the subject of our research. by @fronte.rem
