What happens when a book becomes a space for learning, rather than simply reading?

Prepositions, by artists Timmy Simonds (@simmytimonds) and Aaron Lehman, brings together exercises, interviews, essays and personal reflections on language, teaching and the ways we connect with one another.

Featuring contributions from CAConrad, Thom Donovan, Joseph Grigely, Shaun Leonardo, Assembly and others, the compendium invites readers to become part of the work themselves.

Frontrose presents: Minor Ruptures

Curated by Lina Louisa Krämer and Dr. Luisa Seipp Minor Ruptures is a multidisciplinary exhibition bringing together works by Rebecca Ackroyd, Benjamin Lallier and Sofia Defino Leiby. Through sculpture, painting and collage, the exhibition explores subtle moments of rupture and reassembly through which bodies, objects, images and memories become unstable, displaced and continuously transformed.

Rather than understanding rupture as an act of destruction, Minor Ruptures considers it as a productive condition. A moment in which existing forms, meanings and relationships are unsettled and opened up to new possibilities. Things detach from their original contexts, change function or enter unexpected connections. The exhibition focuses on these small interventions and shifts – moments in which established structures begin to loosen and new constellations can emerge

Opening: Thursday, October 15, 6–9 pm
Exhibition: October 16 – November 7

FRONTROSE CORRESPONDENCE: A CONVERSATION WITH MOHAMMAD REZA MORTAZAVI

We asked musician and percussionist Mohammad Reza Mortazavi to look back at the sounds, objects and places that have shaped his practice, and the ideas that continue to stay with him.

Five questions. Four photographs. A conversation at a distance.

Image 01: Mohammad Reza Mortazavi in his studio after recording, listening back to the music.

Image 02: The two tombaks Mortazavi has had since childhood, instruments he later played with his son from infancy.

Image 03: Mortazavi’s hands, touching and moving together, reflecting on the relationship between rhythm, balance and harmony.

Image 04: Pulse, Mortazavi’s first album, released in 2001.

What happens when an artwork becomes a habitat?

MetaMorphosis is an interdisciplinary project initiated by designer Jakob Kukula (@jkukula) and developed with artist Xaver Hirsch (@xaverhirsch), composer Ben Meerwein and ecologist Esteban Menares. Beginning with research into insect habitats during a residency at Ammersee, the project brought together sculpture, ecological research, live microscopy, sound and projection.

The publication documents this evolving process alongside contributions from artists and researchers including Julian Charrière, Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg, Henrik Håkansson, Jakob Kudsk Steensen and Anna Ridler.

At the centre of the project is a simple shift in perspective: insects are not just observed, but become part of the work.

FRONTROSE CORRESPONDENCE: A CONVERSATION WITH MARIE LUEDER

We asked designer Marie Lueder to look back at the images, objects and moments that have shaped her practice and the stories behind them.

Five questions. Four photographs. A conversation at a distance.

Image 01: A scribbled road map created by Marie for a performance in Berlin, staged for the launch of the first issue of Gruppe Magazine. Given to each performer, the paper mapped out the dramaturgy of the show, which explored the passing of night into day, the rising and setting of the sun.

FRONTROSE CORRESPONDENCE – A CONVERSATION WITH SCOTT KING

For the first edition of Frontrose Correspondence, we asked art director and author Scott King to look back at the places, objects, influences and early works that have shaped his practice – and at what, despite everything, has remained.

Five questions. Four photographs. A conversation at a distance.

Image 01: Hot Flat by Austrian architectural group Coop Himmelblau, 1978 — a design for an apartment block with a ‘burning wing’, perpetually at risk of burning itself down.

Image 02: A 1930s biscuit barrel belonging to Scott’s Nanna King, a familiar object from his childhood.

Image 03: Airmyn riverbank, where Scott played as a child and returns to often, with Drax power station in the background.

Image 04: Never Work, Scott’s first work for Sleazenation, made in collaboration with writer Matt Worley, with whom he produced CRASH.

What the Mine Gives, the Mine Takes, edited by Ana Alenso (@anaalenso), is one of those books that feels less like a publication and more like a landscape to be explored.

Bringing together images, texts, and artistic research around mining, the book follows the traces of extraction across places, materials, and communities.
