How circular is Switzerland?

📝 Report of the Week in the #fruitforthought

The Circularity Gap Report Switzerland says that Switzerland is a trendsetter and a pioneer when it comes to environmental action.

It has decarbonised its electricity sector and is among the world’s best recyclers of municipal solid waste. It also boasts ambitious climate targets, while the canton of Zurich has enshrined the circular economy in its constitution.

This report has come up with 5 recommendations to advance the circular vision for Switzerland:
🌿embrace a circular lifestyle,
🌿advance circular manufacturing,
🌿rethink transport and mobility,
🌿build a circular built environment,
🌿nurture a circular food system.

Authored by @circleeconomy, the report was created in collaboration with @deloitte_switzerland and Circular Economy Switzerland in association with @impacthubch and @kickstart_inno.

1. Weather bulletins on two French TV channels - France 2 and France 3 - will be transformed from Monday into "weather and climate bulletins" to explain the weather differently, adding a climate perspective, causes and effects of climate change.

2. The European Parliament has adopted a revised Effort Sharing Regulation, including a first-ever requirement for all EU member states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and raising the EU’s overall 2030 emissions reduction target to 40% compared to 2005 levels, up from its prior 30% goal.

3. Home appliance manufacturer Whirlpool announced that it has reached the goal of Zero Waste to Landfill at all of its large manufacturing sites worldwide, marking the achievement of a sustainability ambition first set by the company in 2012.
