Before you head into the weekend, attend sporting events or even hanging out with friends — if you plan to consume alcohol — we want to share some helpful safety tips to keep you and your fellow Bulldogs safer this semester. Keep swiping! 👉

🏥 Avoid overconsumption.

Case in point! To avoid overconsumption, the most effective strategy is to track your standard drinks and set a firm limit before you ever take your first sip. 🫗

Know standard drink sizes! Tracking your consumption requires understanding what constitutes a “standard drink.” 👇

In the United States, a standard drink contains roughly 14 grams of pure alcohol, which looks like:

🍺12 ounces of regular beer (~5% ABV),
🍷5 ounces of wine (~12% ABV),
🍾1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits (~40% ABV).

👉Remember, time is the only way to sober up.

🔔Avoid mixing substances! 🔔

Avoid mixing alcohol with energy drinks, caffeine, or illegal substances. Remember, caffeine is a stimulant. ☕️

👉☕️Stimulants mask the depressive effects of alcohol, creating a “wide awake drunk” state that increases the risk of alcohol poisoning.

Set a hard cap. ✋🏻

Decide exactly how many drinks you will have before the night begins, and write it in your phone or tell a trusted friend to hold you accountable.

📍Share your location with a trusted friend or family member, too!

Plan your ride! 🚙

Never drive under the influence; arrange for a designated driver or use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft.

Trust your instincts! Leave any environment or party immediately if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Stay healthy, Bulldogs! ❤️
