SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Maddie to Med School!

As seniors get ready to graduate and USSTRIDE takes on a new cohort of students, we wanted to highlight a student that exemplifies what USSTRIDE is here for. We are so proud of you, Maddie, and we are excited to continue on your journey of becoming a doctor!

“I’m currently a senior pursuing dual degrees in Biology and Psychology, and I’m excited to be attending VCOM-Auburn next year. I chose to apply this cycle because I felt confident in my decision to pursue medicine after graduation and knew I was mentally prepared for the commitment.
During my time at FSU, I’ve been involved across campus. I have served as Secretary of the American Medical Women’s Association for the past two years, worked as a Student Foundation Trustee, and helped found the Rare Ribbon Association. I also serve as the Service and Outreach Chair for Noles in Med and am an active member of USSTRIDE.
USSTRIDE has played a meaningful role in my development by exposing me to panels featuring PA and medical students, which broadened my perspective on healthcare careers. It has also helped me build confidence in my abilities. Since joining, I have worked as a PGL tutor every semester and was honored last semester as a recipient of the Most Active PGL Tutor Award.
In addition to my campus involvement, I have gained hands-on experience as a medical assistant, research assistant, SAAS tutor, and Engage 100 Leader. I’ve also dedicated time to community service, volunteering with Big Bend Cares, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, and Big Bend Hospice.
Beyond academics and service, I’ve made it a priority to maintain balance and pursue my personal interests. I’ve been involved in club tennis for most of my time at FSU and made it a point last semester to attend every football game.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the experiences that have shaped me, and I am excited for what lies ahead in my journey toward a career in medicine.” by @fsuusstride
