I’m rarely mixing in a perfectly treated studio.

Most of the time, I’m on the road, working from different rooms, different headphones, and different environments.

And when you’re working like that, translation becomes everything.

Because nobody is listening to your Afro House track in your studio.

They’re listening in the car.
On AirPods.
At the gym.
Through a Bluetooth speaker.
On their phone.

If your monitoring isn’t telling you the truth, every mix decision becomes a guess.

So for my latest Afro House project, I decided to put Realphones 2 by @dsoniq_realphones to the test.

I’ve used different ways of checking translation over the years, and back in my early days I would spend hours exporting versions, switching between headphones and speakers, checking references, and trying to predict how everything would translate.

It was great ear training , but it was also incredibly time-consuming.

This is where Realphones 2 fits into my workflow.

It corrects the frequency response of 200+ headphone models, while going beyond simple EQ with crossfeed and room-acoustics simulation.

So instead of just hearing a corrected pair of headphones, I can create a much more realistic monitoring environment and quickly check how my mix behaves from different perspectives.

For me, that’s especially useful when I’m producing on the road or working somewhere without a properly treated studio.

It doesn’t replace good ears or good decisions , it gives me a more reliable way to make those decisions.

And that’s ultimately what matters: not how amazing your mix sounds in one perfect environment, but how well it survives everywhere else.
