巳 - Year of the Wood Snake 🐍

A little late to the party, but here’s my contribution to the new year! 🧧✨

This bonsai transforms into a snake, embodying growth, resilience, and the shedding of what no longer serves us. Inspired by ukiyo-e and woodblock printing, this piece celebrates the wisdom of the Wood Snake—a symbol of personal and societal evolution.

According to Pr. JXH Lee (San Fransisco State Uni, Asian studies), the snake teaches us to shed toxicity, ego, and the past. In Daoism, wood represents a return to our true nature, and in Confucianism, it’s all about self-cultivation and refinement.

So, this year, let’s release, renew, and rise! 新年快樂! 🐍 🌱

Third week of #inktober has passed and it’s slowly filling up!! What’s kinda cool is that you start to see the different sections of the poster now 😌 It gives a better sense of what it’s meant to look like in the end (if all goes well 🤞)

This past week has allowed me to delve further into more conceptual renderings as well as starting to fill some background elements (especially the coral reef 🪸). The prompts for this week were: 15. GUIDEBOOK, 16. GRUNGY, 17. JOURNAL, 18. DRIVE, 19. RIDGE, 20. UNCHARTED and 21. RHINOCEROS.

The second week of #Inktober is done, and things are ramping up! ✍️ As for previous years, instead of producing 31 drawings, I’m blending all #prompts into one big piece. This means I have to be consistent in style throughout the month 😩 (no small thing for me). The whole idea for this year is also to give an overall #artnouveau flare. Slowly (but surely), the paper is filling up, and I’m loving the journey! 🖋️✨

This week’s prompts were: 8. HIKE, 9. SUN, 10. NOMADIC, 11. SNACKS, 12. REMOTE, 13. HORIZON, 14. ROAM. It’s getting tougher, but seeing the whole piece come together is rewarding. 🖤

Hello 👋🏻
We’re October 7th, and this marks the end of week 1 of #inktober! One week of daily, ink-based frenzy 🫨🖊️ And I’m super lucky to be working with the best #fineliners from @fabercastellfrance 🖤

This year again, instead of producing 31 different drawings (one per #prompt, one per day), I’m doing one big piece blending all 31 prompts together… all the while trying to follow an #artnouveau aesthetic. I am no Alfons Mucha, but you get the gist 🫣

JAPAN 2024
Part 3: Fukuoka
To finish this trip with a bang I went back to the source, back to the city that started it all: Fukuoka baby! 🎌
It was a little emotional re-discovering this city I moved in ten years ago, and stayed in for over three years. 🥹 The buildings may have changed, but i found that much of what made it very pleasant is still here: friends, food, the beach…
(Did I mention the food? 🍜)
I’ve only just landed back in France that I already miss this country ♥️
