I haven’t made a self portrait in so long I forgot how uncomfortable it is to make.
However - I did allow myself some self indulgence this time, just to explore what my current image of myself looks like and... honestly? It’s a bit much, but in a good way.

There is a lot more character bleed from stories that have shaped me in the last few years.
Some pretentious poetry about standing your ground, while the world tries to blur the lines of morality right in front of your eyes.
Some fantastical whimsy that makes it all bearable.
Some queer exhilaration.
Being a fox, while also being a rabbit.

OH and bonus points for anyone who guesses the main character reference here? (Hint: If we talked in the last year, I must have tried to get you to listen to the THING at least once!)

Severance has me in shambles.

I’m not an angry person, but I have always been enraged.

But I live in a strage place now. Instead of threats of violence, people pat me on the back and with a polite smile they say “That’s so sad, but what can you do, that’s how things are.”
The sweetness in their voices makes me gag on the sweet dinner I’ve been served.
I ask them if they’ve seen the news and they say they’d prefer not to talk politics at the table.

This polite dance makes me dizzy.

I go to work the next day and the game continues. The smiles are the wide and mandatory.
Boss likes it that way, for when they scream at you it’s important to remember to stay polite.
Capitalism is the only reality you’ve ever known, so when it reveals its bloody hands, make sure to politely look away. by @fuchs.png

This one is just to give ornithologists a stroke, as I have no idea about bird anatomy, so I just make it up on the spot and spice it up with a bit of dinosaur lore. 🦴

I was reminded yesterday how closely chickens are related to dinosaurs, which, if you‘ve ever interacted with an angry chicken, makes perfect sense.

this is the exact shade of blue that always takes me back to my printmaking days. There was (and probably still is, although empty) a bucket of paint we got from the same place they print money at. The pure scarcity of the paint made it the printmaking equivalent of liquid gold. Like, you didn’t even have to mix it with anything - I used it straight out of the bucket - but it still had depth.

Not to get overly sentimental over a shade of blue, but my printmaking friends remember exactly what I’m talking about!

Winter Jounals - 3/3

The text comes from the Paul Auster’s “Winter Journal”.
He sits down to write about the history of his body.
I sit down to draw a very frustraterd teenager, an insecure young man, and some very confining spaces.

So here’s the third part, dealing with the feeling of insanity caused by our own tiring existence.
