New on Volume: Joseph Fucigna talks about his career and studio practice. In this conversation Joe and I consider the importance of material exploration, failure, and allowing artwork to develop through the process of making. We are thrilled by this thoughtful review of "In Process…" by Richard Klein for Two Coats of Paint.

"The small scale of the paintings has encouraged rapid experimentation, putting Fucigna in the company of artists as diverse as Jack Whitten, Gerhard Richter, Lynda Benglis, and Stephen Maine.”

Thank you, Richard, for such an insightful and considered review — and to Two Coats of Paint for championing the conversation around abstraction.

"In Process…" is on view at G-Town Arts through October 3. Full review linked in bio. Instal photo @c_whittier

A poured cream-white crust split into a web of fine cracks. Blue, olive, and brown run the breaks in branching veins, pooling wide, then narrowing to threads. Deeper blues surface where the crust pulls back at the edges.

Joseph Fucigna, Snow Ball, 2024
The presence of a body. Rust-orange spheres crown a long cascade of white speckled netting, and a blue hose loops down to gather on the floor. A white mass accumulates, gathering material the way a rolled ball gathers snow. The piece runs from wall to ground and back, built from found objects and overlooked materials.
