‘Into the Cold: Britain’s Long Fight for Warmth’ exhibition opens next Thursday 8 October in Newcastle.

A selection of my photographs from fuel poverty and energy justice actions will be featured in this exhibition, alongside objects, images, words and interactive activities exploring Britain’s long history of cold homes, and the people and organisations who have fought to keep communities warm.

The exhibition traces this history from the national hypothermia crisis of the 1960s through to the pioneering work of Neighbourhood Energy Action in the North East, and the continuing struggle against fuel poverty and for energy justice today.

Thursday 8 October
5–7pm
Free entry

There’ll be a discussion with a brilliant panel, as well as warming drinks.

The exhibition is curated by Rebecca Wright, Kathy Davies and Nick Stromberg as part of Carbon Bodies: Warmth and Fuelling Health in Britain, 1918–2022, a Wellcome-funded research project at Northumbria University.

Today, the government is letting Ofgem hike your energy bills to a four-year high just in time for winter

😡 That's despite an election promise to bring bills DOWN by £300.

That's why thousands of us are calling on the government to #makegreenfair and bring down bills.

We're joining up with 350.org to deliver a 20,000-strong petition to number 10 today, and demonstrating all over the UK to demand they:

🌞 Share the benefits of cheap-to-produce wind and solar
❎ End energy unfairness
🤑 Make sure green measures don't just benefit the rich
🏘️ Make retrofit accountable and invest in green skills, so people's homes aren't damaged by shoddy work
