I am breaking my posting draught today because of something I never thought would happen:

Mori Hayashi, our favourite former Sensei (he’s still a sensei to us), is now on instagram!

Give him a follow: @morihayashilive

Hi Fukei, long time no see.

Just got reminded that today is the 14th anniversary of #sakuragakuin. Time flies. 6 and a half years since I found Babymetal and didn’t look back.

I have not posted here in ages because I get more mileage from Twitter (despite everything that’s happened to it) as that’s where all the Japanese idol group fans hang out, so you get first hand reports. I wish I knew this while SG was around.

Since I last posted, I’m still at my full time job, my Australian Football League team won the Grand Final this year and I was there to see it!

Other than that, not much else to report personally.

As for my other favourite idols #BEYOOOOONDS, they’ve had two members leave. One because of illness (she resurfaced in a smaller group and does TikTok lives sometimes) and the other to pursue a bigger dream… but that has not got off to a good start. There is an audition for new members which we will know the results of next year. I’m excited for the year ahead. Oh yeah they’ve just had their 3rd Budokan concert, and their 1st Budokan from 2022 is subbed.

How about you? How are you going? Do you still listen to SG songs and watch old concerts? What are you into these days now that SG is no longer with us? Which graduate’s activities do you follow if any? Also please refresh my memory of who you are. 🤣

Long time no post! Hope you are doing well.

I've managed to get a Sudoku puzzle featured on Cracking the cryptic, and it's based on my favourite #BEYOOOOONDS girl #shimakurarika! It's called "Rika's Endless Summer". I made it for her birthday.

It is a Nurikabe Sudoku hybrid that involves drawing islands (the first character of her surname means island) and water, then solving the killer sudoku.

See my story to watch Mark Goodliffe solve it with ease, and speculate who Rika might be. 😄

Been meaning to post this for a month but look what my sister bought for me when she was in Japan!

It's a Kumamon otamatone!

You may remember this musical instrument from Sakura Gakuin's excursion to Maywa Denki's workshop in 2012.

Is idol history repeating itself again?

In 2015 #sakuragakuin released Mathematica.

In April 2023, #BEYOOOOONDS will release their 4th single, with one of the songs, titled "Motome yo... Unmei no Tabibito San", also having a mathematical flavour.

Tabibito San, (roughly, traveller calculation) is an elementary school problem about two travellers starting at different points and calculating when they will meet.

Ironically the math presented in this song is easier than the formulas from Mathematica even though BEYOOOOONDS' average age is 8 years older.

In fact the 2015 Nendo and the Beyooooonds girls have almost the same age range, being born from 1999 to 2004.

A day late, but happy birthday to this legend. 45 years young.

One thing that was so great about the #sakuragakuin fandom was the dedication of the translators. If Sakura Gakuin did a video, no matter how long, whether it was a whole concert or a 30 second promotional video, or a radio show, or a magazine interview, there would be a translation. Whenever the girls made diary entries, there would be a translation within days on Reddit, without fail. The diary entries themselves felt more personal too, not because of their handwritten nature, but because of the relative infrequency. They were able to say more in one entry rather than just having to throw something together in one night.

No, this is not a swipe at #helloproject fan translators, as they are just as amazing. The problem is there are 6 groups to take care of, and translating every single thing in the Hello! Project world is just not possible. I do miss radio show translations though, as that is apparently where the most personal anecdotes and funny moments usually appear from the girls.

Be grateful for translators. They are the reason you can love idols more than you otherwise would.

I just remembered this happened too. #matsuiairi met #BEYOOOOONDS on 18th March 2020 on #沼にハマってきいてみた.

I haven't been able to enjoy an idol crossover before, as I've never knew much outside #sakuragakuin when it was around. But I did find this from late 2020, before I became a #BEYOOOOONDS fan. First president #mutoayami and Biyo's' own Showa era music lover #shimakurarika were on a Showa era music program together!
