31. On my 21st birthday I was doing shots with my mom at a bar—how many I don’t know, I stopped counting after six. In 15 minutes. At some point she turned to me and said “I’m gonna tell you now, the 20s are rough. You’re gonna spend the next decade trying to discover who you are and it’s gonna be a stressful time” so not necessarily the happiest thing to say… but she wasn’t wrong. I also don’t think she predicted my 20s would include a whole pandemic. The 20s were rough, but man 30 was fun. If the rest of this decade was any thing like that first year, I can’t wait. Happy Birthday Little Baby! Well I guess you’re not so little anymore. 2020 was for me personally a shit show that Hopefully you will never have to experience or comprehend, but the silver lining was I got spend so much time with you (and your brother but don’t tell him, we don’t need to add ego manic to his brand of tiny psychopath). From you I learned a lot of life lessons, from changing a diaper to being able to pacify pterodactyl screams when you’re at the end of your rope. I’ll never forget how anytime I entered a room you forgot everyone else around—including your parents—and made me feel special in a time when I needed it most. Well 27 is off to rough a start. I believe that all things regress to the mean; that no matter how dark things are a light can be found.
