Lichfield has long been my place to go when I want to potter about, eat good food and buy more craft things that I probably (definitely) don’t need.

Feeling a bit meh a few weeks ago #, I took myself on @westmidlandsrailway off to Lichfield (the city stop, not Trent Valley) for several excellent decaf coffees - shout out @melbourneinlichfield and @pettone.co.uk. I also got to meet an excellent dog in Pettone and speak to the owners about their awesome pets.

No trip to Lichfield is complete for me without going to @spellboundbeadco, where of course I bought too many beads. Even if you’re not into crafts and making things, it’s worth a visit because the place really does just feel like magic. I also popped into @thefabricvault.lichfield for chalk and some fabric to complete a project. And ended up speaking to another customer about Hall Green.

Rounded off the day with a trip to @thepattyfreaks for one of their burgers and an excellent lunchtime deal where you can add a drink and fries to your burger for £1. I opted to keep my burger as a single but you can double up the patty. Delicious burger, and the chips had a good crunch: hit the spot brilliantly.

Thanks Lichfield, you cheered me up and now I have more material for some chaotic crafts.

Really enjoyed an afternoon in Kings Heath over the weekend and *finally* visiting @nook_kingsheath!

Tucked away on Institute Road, past Iceland and the car park this is a delight of a place. The kind of whimsy I knew Birmingham was capable of but physically is in short supply (or at least not in pop up form). This place is going to be a total must visit when I next week to get gifts for folk.

The compact gallery space had a wonderfully bonkers exhibition by @bam_bam_birmingham, combining nostalgia, Batman and Birmingham - three of my favourite things. The other gallery looked like it was being prepared for imminent installation, so I’ll have to go back and see what’s there.

Thanks @viviyau72 for the recommendation and for finally making me go. Definitely will be visiting again!

What better way to celebrate the start of October and brush off a positively autumnal day than with a load of delicious carbs and comfort food?!

I’ve started a new job recently and my office is near Five Ways so it was an excellent opportunity to visit @angelasbirmingham. Born from the ashes of Laghi’s, which sadly closed recently, the menu is pasta and pizza heaven.

Three courses is not my usual mid-week dinner but catch ups with pals is a good excuse to treat yourselves. @jobrumvialondon and I shared fried pizza sticks with arrabbiata sauce, and courgette & potato fritters - there are five of the fritters but I forgot to snap a photo in time. Mains we both went for the tagliatelle bolognese, which was made with oxtail. And to end gelato for us both. I went classic vanilla, but Jo’s trio of chocolate, hazelnut and vanilla had such a pleasing colour palette I took a photo of hers instead.

Delicious, comforting and filling. It was exactly what a rainy mid-week night needed to cheer us up. Dairy and I do not usually get on so well, so I was expecting the worst, but I went home pleasantly satiated without feeling uncomfortably full.

Delighted we’ve still got this little corner of Italy on Five Ways.

Between not being in town much and the raft of new places opened, it’s easy to forget about some of the places that have been around for a while. But with plans ahead of us and dinner needed, @brumhour suggested a pre-theatre trip to @pieminister and it was a great shout. Pie, mash and gravy that’s filling enough you don’t feel peckish later but not so heavy you feel like you’re gonna fall asleep in the auditorium.

When three old food bloggers hang out… (see the last photo).

Lovely to catch up with @viviyau72 and @brummiegourmand last night at @soi_1268 by @saibuddhabelly in Stirchley. Not my first visit and won’t be my last, but not sure I remembered to post last night. One of the topics of conversation was all about when we all used to blog regularly…feels like a lifetime ago!

We shared enoki tempura, Thai fried chicken, garlic & lime wings, king prawn toast and beef massaman. The massaman is a main dish and comes with rice but we ordered another rice for the table. I’ve had the Thai fried chicken as a main before and it’s also delicious.

Service was great and thoroughly enjoyed seeing what another diner had done with their leftovers to make the enoki tempura leftovers into a little face. Also, very busy when we got there, so well worth booking in. Which probably goes for a lot of Stirchley these days - what with us being the best neighbourhood in the midlands or whatever accolade we’ve got now.

Jacket potatoes have become my life -someone tell me where I can get one in Digbeth PLEASE?! 🥔

Met a pal for lunch on Tuesday before a meeting over JQ way and we went to Baguette du Maison on Constitution Hill. Massive spud and a can of Fanta for a smidge over £5. Totally hit the spot.

Been doing this ten week fitness challenge (over at @willingtotakeiton if you want to follow) and cheesy jacket potatoes were my evening meal most nights. Still not bored of them. Or chicken and rice lunches.

Also excuse the not-great photo, I hadn’t intended this to be for anyone other than my PT.

It took me months to get through one episode of The Bear (s1 e7) because it is an anxious person who has worked in hospitality/events’ worst nightmare. But I’m back on it now and sending my friend’s screenshots of the clips I know they’ll find drool-worthy. Like this. Because my friends are special.

Already well into the bank holiday weekend where I’ve lost track of time. Started with drinks and dinner on Friday night with @tofutasha & @whai.ting at a @tierratacos pop-up at the fantastic @passingfancies.bar in @custardfactory, Digbeth.

Reunited with my great love, the frijoles from Tierra, which is always a joy. Big fan of their ode to Greggs too. But it was also great to finally getting to check out Passing Fancies and discover that, to no one’s surprise, they can make up some excellent non-alcoholic cocktails (all mine were)…and that it is very dog friendly. And of course it was great to see @theworldof_tommy in action.

The chicken balti pies at Villa Park are almost too nice to be half time food fodder. I want a knife and fork to savour it, and I’m yet to figure out how to eat them one handed. But I like them too much not to have one.

Great to be back at Villa Park with 7577 other people watching @avwfcofficial draw 3-3 against @liverpoolfcw (a win would’ve been nice but a draw was a fair reflection of the game). It’s been a great season for Villa and cheering on the team as a season ticket holder has been a real highlight of the last year. Women’s football is going from strength to strength and this was the last home game this season - but I’m looking forward to returning to cheer on the women’s team next season. Maybe even a few men’s matches too.

Popped in to town for lunch with a friend who is famous for his Travel Basil bear adventures on Twitter.

He suggested Kawataku, a Japanese and Korean food and drinks specialist supermarket and cafe. Had this doorstop of a chicken teriyaki and kimchi sandwich. It’s located right by the Mailbox, you’ll spot if you walk through the passage way between Tesco and the AC Hotel / Black Sheep Coffee.

Years ago, when a friend and I were looking to move out of home we decided on Kings Heath because I remembered International Stock (RIP) and heard about a secret garden cafe that did live music and storytelling. Something years later @kitchen_garden_cafe is still a firm favourite. Also honoured to have a very polite table guest with us for lunch.
