OPEN TODAY AT 10AM for gallery and design store visits before the OPENING RECEPTION from 4-7 pm.Good for Something is a four-person show at Roundabouts Now that includes wall-mounted sculptures by Kyle Clairmont Jacques, paintings by Corydon Cowansage, pedestalized sculptures by Nicholas Sullivan, and kinetic polage (polarized light collage) by Nathaniel de Large.At the heart of Good for Something is the simple act of looking at an object and sensing its potential use, even if that use isn’t immediately obvious. The idea of affordance theory, put forth by James Gibson in the 1960s as part of ecological psychology, posited that objects and environments suggest or enable certain actions to an organism or user; for example, a chair affords sitting. The works in this show take objects found at the periphery of experience and create new things from them that are highly mediated by their transformation. What is left is a series of visual tuning forks for the viewer to experience and discover what resonances they create. ——Photo cred: @mollie_mckinley by @funkypartay

April fools 😘Although I haven’t posted much about it over the last few weeks, most of you already know I’m in this year’s Whitney Biennial and the New Museum’s New Humans show, both of which have just opened and have already been more expansive and rewarding than I’ve really had time to process.I’m excited to announce that I’ll also be included in the forthcoming Greater New York at PS1, opening in a few weeks, as well as the Venice Biennale group exhibition In Minor Keys, opening in May. Even writing that out still feels slightly unreal.What I wasn’t expecting, and am still trying to wrap my head around, is being told today that I am the only artist included across all four of these exhibitions, which apparently has never happened before.Although most of these things are decided long in advance, a lot of this seems to have come together at the last minute, as a direct response to my exhibition earlier this year at Astor Weeks, Long Leash.It’s been strange to watch something that began as an exploration of restraint and limitation scale outward like this.I’ve been trying not to interrupt the momentum by over-defining it, while also knowing moments like this don’t stay open for long.And, most importantly, thank you to my little family at @creativeartistsagency for making all this dreams a reality. by @funkypartay
