“Riddles” by James Bird is out now ! Written and recorded over six years, the immersive story-album is a gateway into ancient enchanted groves inhabited by mythological figures including Narcissus, Echo, Circe, Inanna, Tammuz, Mnemosyne, Iris, and Orpheus.

A mytho-poetic ethereal folk feast, Riddles dives unabashedly into the burning existential questions that gnaw at the corners of the deep psyche. Across 11 songs, the record threads together cinematic open-tuned fingerpicking with Bird’s soaring vocals, exploring timeless themes of love, loss, home, reincarnation, friendship, true names, death, rebirth, time, and eternity as it journeys to the roots of the underworld, up to the stars, and back again.

“Ancient Grove / Spaceborn Child ”, the final single from my new album “Riddles” is out everywhere now ! ✨ Wow ✨

Written in early 2020, in the dark depths of the pandemic, these songs came into being days apart from each other.

“Ancient Grove” is the spiraling descent into our deepest existential questions; a contemplation on our inherant mortality, the initiation of falling madly in love, and our most nostalgic childhood memories.

“Spaceborn Child” is a soaring celebration in praise of eternal friendship, the soul unbound, our shared longing to return Home and a welcoming invitation back to the eden of Earth that we never truly left.

Two movements ; One song. Two hands of the same being, of one circular ouroboros journey of descent and ascent. These songs have been my greatest teachers.

Both songs have lived long lives unrecorded, played to countless people countless times all over the Northeast. It is surreal to finally gift you a recorded version !

Of course, they will forever change and live free of these recordings and I am excited to see how they distill over decades of my life. I hope to be singing these lyrics until my last days here on Earth.

Thank you to everyone who has gifted their tears, dance and voices to this song journey for the last six years. It’s hard to put into words how meaningful it is for me to finally share this with you.

This is 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗲, an audio collage of phone recordings to raise funds for @thepcrf. Really proud to release this new benefit compilation today, on our label’s ninth anniversary, available exclusively via Bandcamp (link in bio)

The vision for this year’s project was to create a micro communal archive – a sort of blurry collective unconscious where the lines between where one memory begins and ends remain unclear

Assembled from phone recordings taken by artists and friends between 2016 and 2026, this audio collage flows between poems, song seeds, voice notes, dream logs, and fleeting memories in unexpected ways — happy accidents and coincidences so seamless they begin connecting individual experiences into a single, shared preserve

This is not a time capsule to bury, though. These recordings have already been buried. This is actually their unearthing
