First Aid Gem: Breast Cancer (II) ⛑️

Recognising the signs and symptoms of breast cancer is an important part of early detection. From unusual lumps and changes in breast size or shape to nipple discharge and skin dimpling, knowing what to look out for matters.

If you notice any unusual breast changes, seek medical attention promptly. Not every lump is cancerous, but every unusual change deserves attention.

First Aid Gem: Breast Cancer (I) ⛑️

Breast cancer awareness starts with understanding the condition and knowing the importance of early detection.

While certain factors may increase the risk, breast cancer can also occur in people without known risk factors. Staying informed and seeking medical attention when you notice unusual breast changes are important steps towards protecting your health.

World Mental Health Day! ❤️🧠

Mental health is an important part of our overall well-being, and it deserves just as much attention as our physical health. Let’s remember to take care of ourselves, give ourselves room to rest, and seek support when we need it.

Let’s also be intentional about looking out for one another, listening without judgment, and creating an environment where we can all feel safe asking for help. As we care for others, let’s not forget to care for ourselves, too. ❤️

First Aid Gem: Bleeding ⛑️

Bleeding can happen from cuts, wounds, punctures, accidents, or fractures. While some bleeding may be minor, severe bleeding can become life-threatening if not managed promptly.

If you or someone around you is bleeding:
🟢 Apply firm, direct pressure to the wound using a clean cloth or dressing
🟢 Maintain pressure if the bleeding continues
🟢 Seek medical help promptly if the bleeding is severe or does not stop

Stay calm, act quickly, and know the right first aid steps. ⛑️

✨ In the Spotlight: Our Face of the Month ❤️

Meet Anjiolaoluwa Stella Oyedele, fondly known as Anjay, a vibrant volunteer of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, FUTA Detachment. ❤️

A Public Health Science student, Stella brings her personality, creativity, and unique talents into everything she does. Beyond her involvement with the Red Cross, she is a fragrance vendor and fashion designer, expressing her creativity through both business and fashion. ✨

When she’s not creating or serving, Stella enjoys dancing, writing, reading books, watching C-dramas, and getting some well-deserved sleep. 📚🎶

First Aid Gem: Malaria II ⛑️

Not every fever is “just malaria.” Malaria can become serious when diagnosis and treatment are delayed, so knowing the warning signs and taking the right steps is important.

If you or someone around you experiences:
🟢 Confusion or unusual weakness
🟢 Repeated vomiting
🟢 Seizures
🟢 Difficulty breathing
🟢 Loss of consciousness

Don’t self-medicate or assume the cause of the fever
Get tested and seek proper medical care promptly. ⛑️

First Aid Gem: Malaria ⛑️

Malaria is a common illness caused by Plasmodium parasites and is mainly spread through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. Knowing the signs and taking action early can help prevent complications.

If you or someone around you experiences: 🟢 Fever, chills, or sweating
🟢 Headache and body aches
🟢 Weakness or unusual tiredness
🟢 Nausea or vomiting

Don’t simply assume it’s a regular fever. Proper testing is important because malaria can become severe when treatment is delayed.

Suspect malaria? Get tested and seek medical care promptly. ⛑️

First Aid Gem: Joint Injuries ⛑️

Joint injuries can happen suddenly, especially after a fall, twist, or awkward movement. Giving the injured area the right care early can help reduce discomfort and prevent further injury.

If you’re dealing with or assisting someone with a suspected joint injury:
🟢 Stop the activity and allow the affected area to rest.
🟢 Protect the injured joint from unnecessary movement or pressure.
🟢 Apply a cold pack wrapped in cloth for short periods to help with pain and swelling.
🟢 Keep the injured area elevated when practical.
🟢 Avoid forcing the joint back into position or trying to straighten it if it appears deformed.

When it comes to first aid, knowing what to do matters. ⛑️❤️

Learn first aid. Be prepared. Save a life.
