POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A leader inherits countless responsibilities, but among the most consequential is the responsibility to ensure people feel seen, valued, and genuinely appreciated. Intentional recognition of an individual’s hard work, discipline, and commitment is not merely a gesture—it is a leadership investment.

When leaders deliberately acknowledge excellence and recognize contributions publicly, they reinforce the behaviors and standards they expect others to emulate. What may appear to be a small act can have a profound effect on morale, cohesion, and organizational culture—positively influencing the individual, the team, and ultimately the entire organization at the strategic level.

Over the last 45 days, I was fortunate enough to recognize eight of the very few who earned my ā€˜AFT 500 Club’ coin šŸ¦.

The Non-Commission Officer is the backbone of the Army. The First Sergeant is the heart and soul. No other enlisted Soldier carries the responsibility and authority of the First Sergeant.

A great First Sergeant is an expert in enforcing standards, ensuring training objectives are met, developing Soldiers within the unit, all administrative functions, and the health, welfare, and morale of the Soldiers and their Families.

The First Sergeant is the senior advisor to the Commander on all matters concerning enlisted Soldiers. They are senior trainers to all Soldiers. The First Sergeant provides instruction through experience and is in the position to provide clear understanding of the Commander’s, guidance and intent. He or she is the eyes and ears for the Commander and should inject themselves into any point of friction within his or her unit to solve problems. The First Sergeant is the standard bearer for their unit and serves as a role model for all Soldiers, NCOā€˜s, and Officers.

I have spent the last 90 days in this position and have enjoyed every day of it. Collectively, we have made some significant improvements:

- modernized our systems & in-processing
- improved the quality of our talent acquisition
- implemented a monthly esprit de corps run with all newly arrived Soldiers
- increased our company average AFT score from 378 to 447
- increased the overall morale of the Company
- improved the quality and cleanliness of our barracks
- implemented the AFT 450/500 Club at the company-level and currently working on battalion-level
- scored another 500 on my AFT

This is only ā€œscratching the surfaceā€ and I look forward to seeing both my Officers and NCOs grow these next 12-18 months. Blessed to have such an amazing group of professionals that understand the significance of being the benchmark of excellence. 🫔 taken in Fort Hood, Texas by @future_chro

Where you start doesn’t determine where you finish.
Your mindset, actions, and attitude do.

I grew up the oldest of six. Experienced homelessness. Worked at 14 to help pay bills. School wasn’t the priority—survival was. Anger and poor decisions led to expulsions and setbacks.

Grizzly Youth Academy gave me structure and discipline—but not a new environment. I went back to the same chaos. Graduated late from a continuation high school with a 1.8 GPA. Still showed up. Still finished.

Then I lost my father to gun violence. No final advice. No goodbye.

That moment forced a choice.

I joined the Army—after taking the ASVAB three times. Twenty years later, through discipline and persistence, I’ve earned a Bachelor’s of Science-Health and Sciences, a Master’s in Human Resources Management, a Postgraduate Certificate in Neuroleadership, and I’m now pursuing my Doctor of Business Administration (DBA).

No pity. Just proof.

Your past doesn’t define you.
The hand you’re dealt doesn’t decide the outcome.
You do.

Now I mentor and inspire youth to build the future they want—regardless of where they started.

With over 20 years of distinguished service in the United States Army as a Senior Human Resources Advisor, I’ve led teams, shaped talent strategies, and driven impactful change from the tactical to the strategic level.

My journey has taken me from recruiting in Los Angeles to managing enterprise-level HR operations—including talent acquisition, policy development, and finance.

I hold a B.S. in Health and Sciences, an M.A. in Human Resources Management, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Neuroleadership. I’m currently a doctoral candidate pursuing a DBA with an emphasis in Human Resources, and I’m also Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt certified.

As I look ahead to attending the prestigious Sergeant’s Major Academy and serving in high-level strategic roles, my mission is clear: to transition into the civilian sector as a CHRO for a Fortune 500 consulting firm—bringing people-first leadership, data-driven insight, and operational excellence to the boardroom.

Follow my journey šŸ’«ā€¦
