We are delighted to announce Manifestos for Optimism, a collection of conversations with cultural leaders conducted over two years as part of the programme. This beautiful edition was published by our media partner @cultureshockit, also available as a free e-book (link below). The 14 interviews explore what it takes to lead a cultural organisation, the structural factors that can get in the way of delivering a collective vision and how cooperation, shared values and persistence can enable organisations’ ambitions to be realised. The conversations reveal the vital role that optimism plays in building business resilience. It is hoped that the energy from these conversations will offer new perspectives on how to approach the creative act of business planning. Thank you so much to everyone who made this possible: all of our Inspirational Interviewees - Mark Ball, Alex Beard CBE, Farooq Chaudhry OBE, Ekow Eshun, Dr Errol Francis, Laia Gasch, Dr Ali Hossaini, Suhair Khan, Kwame Kwei-Armah OBE, Karen Napier MBE, Ben Rawlingson Plant FRSA, Victoria Siddall, Anne Torreggiani, and Erica Whyman OBE; and our collaborators Matthew Blades, Director of Economy, Culture & Skills, Alice Edwards, Head of Culture & Creative Economy, and Joshua McTaggart, Cultural Development Manager, at London Borough of Lambeth; Tilly Leris, Programme Co-ordinator for Future Connected; our media partner, Cultureshock, especially Phil Allison and Patrick Kelly; and to our Year 1 colleagues, Rebecca King Lassman, and Renée Trumpet. A huge congratulations to Caroline Boury, Co-Founder and Director at the Boury Academy @thebouryacademy for winning the Future Connected Award 2024! 🏆 💫 Caroline says: “I am absolutely delighted and proud to be awarded this year’s Future Connected Award. I have been so inspired by this year’s fellows and the business leaders who so graciously shared ideas and expertise. This experience has been absolutely invaluable to me both professionally and personally. I am extremely excited to put everything we have learned into the next phase of development for The Boury Academy to ensure maximum impact for our community and the best possible outcomes for our young people.” The winner was announced at the Future Connected Awards Ceremony by Cllr Jacqui Dyer MBE and Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, London Borough of Lambeth @lambeth_council, at a celebration hosted by our wonderful partner venue, the Southbank Centre @southbankcentre in the iconic Royal Festival Hall. A massive congratulations from the Future Connected team to all participants for completing the programme. 🎉 Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Chris Taylor, Co-Founder of Young Creators UK (YCUK) @youngcreatorsuk for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Chris says: “The Future Connected programme has been transformational for Young Creators UK as an organisation, but also for myself as CEO and co-founder. The workshops, industry experts and peer network have given me support and a free framework to better understand and shape our organisation. The depth of the information provided will have a long lasting positive impact on young creators and in turn the extensive network the organisation supports. Like most founders we weren't trained to be business leaders. We are change makers reacting to a problem and addressing it. Future Connected has equipped us with the tools to have greater impact and bring about the change we wish to see in the world. One of the best things about the program has been the development of the peer network; YCUK is already collaborating with multiple FC organisations. As CEO and co-founder, having a peer network with direct experience of the types of challenges we face on a daily basis has been critical to myself as a leader but also for my well-being as a person. Overall, the program has been transformative on a personal and professional level. I've gone from working on intuition and willpower, knowing I'm doing the right thing by the results we achieve, to being able to articulate cultural and strategic needs then apply systems and processes to address them. It has helped us solidify our structure, confirmed our intuitions and build a strategy that will enable our team to support the long term growth of YCUK.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture

We were empowered to embrace the mental and physical space needed to reimagine, recalibrate and redevelop our distinctive and dynamic business to be the most robust and resilient version of itself for the next 3 years and beyond. Highlights of the Future Connected programme have been innumerous... A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this experience to fruition.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Naomi Siderfin, Founding Co-Director of Beaconsfield @beaconsfield_gallery_vauxhall for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Naomi says: “Future Connected has been excellent for linking with other organisations in the borough, great and small. I hope to develop several relationships from this new network with a view to mutual business support. The programme has been particularly good at stressing an uncompromising values-led approach to business planning, introducing us to new planning strategies and most importantly offering the chance to take time out from the stresses of day-to-day management for strategic re-thinking. Highlights for me have been the robust debates we have been able to have within the group of fellows, access to Louise McKinney’s expertise and her inspirational interviews with leaders in the field.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Anthony Olanipekun, CEO of Grounded Sounds @groundedsoundsuk for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Anthony says: “It has given us the resources and time to invest in our business plan and financial planning. One of the main highlights has been meeting like-minded individuals working in the cultural sector in Lambeth.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Julie Norburn, Founder and Executive Director of Art4Space @art4spacecommunity for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Julie says: “The Future Connected programme has provided a transformative experience, connecting with inspirational leaders, thinkers, and 12 brilliant fellow leaders in the Lambeth cultural arts sector in Lambeth. I have felt overwhelming support from the Future Connected team led by the expertise and passion from Louise. This support has allowed me to step back from day-to-day operations, engage in big-picture thinking, and realign Art4Space ambitions. The programme has been instrumental in shifting perspectives, providing valuable time for learning, reflection, and inspiration, ultimately an empowering experience. This opportunity has given me much needed time away from Art4Space to learn, reflect, recharge and be totally inspired. A more mindful leader.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Joseph Lynch, Founder and Artistic Director of Babel Theatre @babel_theatre for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Joseph says: "Future Connected is a rare opportunity for the highest quality of business development for cultural leaders. As a working-class Lambeth resident it opens a doorway to executive level cultural thinking that is blocked to so many and has allowed us to take Babel from a small scale theatre company to an ambitious cultural community operating all over London and UK. The power in the programme is in its interconnectivity, too often in the arts we operate in silos, and this programme brilliantly bonds a dynamic cohort together creating its own ecosystem, then connects that cohort with leaders and thinkers from all over the cultural industries. Being a part of this extraordinary community of creative thinkers has been a real step change for us." Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Lucy Knight, Executive Director of Streatham Space Project @streathamspace for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Lucy says: “Future Connected has been a great opportunity to feel much more connected to our borough, particularly through the other organisations in the cohort who are doing such fantastic things. It’s been really inspiring. It’s also allowed us to take a step back to interrogate the vision, mission and values that guide Streatham Space Project. The inspirational talks and lunches from a variety of leaders and experts have been a highlight, especially when they’ve been so open and candid about their own challenges and successes.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Roger Hartley, Artistic Director of Bureau of Silly Ideas @bureau_of_silly_ideas for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Roger says: “It has enabled us to use time and expertise to examine, explore, and improve the models that have evolved organically over the last twenty years. We are now empowered to develop with improved structure, so we can continue maintaining and nurturing culture and communities with London's most important toybox. The main highlights of the programme have been meeting the great cohort of other cultural SMEs, opening the doors to cultural stakeholders of Lambeth and sowing seeds for exciting future collaboration.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Ben Cross, Founder and Creative Director of @cloudx for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Ben says: “Future Connected is a brilliant developmental programme, providing an invaluable opportunity to re-engage with what we do and why we do it whilst building a unique network of cultural leaders and organisations. Cloud X is now a more connected, focussed and resilient organisation. The programme highlights are all about the people involved: the cohort of exceptional cultural organisations; the Inspirational Interviews and Lunches with; and Louise McKinney’s expert guidance and fascinating insight.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
Congratulations to Caroline Boury, Co-Founder and Director of The Boury Academy @thebouryacademy for completing the Future Connected 2024 programme. 🎉 Caroline says: “This programme has been invaluable for our business. It has helped me get everything actually on paper in a way that is easy for our team and external partners, clients or prospective funders to understand. It gives us stability and confidence that the vision and values of the organisation will stay strong regardless of who is in the driving seat in the future, as well as giving us an immediate strategic action plan that we are all excited about. I have loved the chance to work with and meet so many others from Lambeth’s incredible culture scene. Running a non-profit can be a lonely and very stressful role and it has been amazing to connect with so many other people who have been so open about their own experiences and challenges. I have been inspired and invigorated by my fellows on the course and hope we have many more opportunities to collaborate.” Photography by @bettinaadelaphotography by @futureconnectedculture
