POSTS STORIES REELS
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined the @idfafestival team as co-curator of IDFA DocLab 2026! @idfadoclab I’m enjoying an inspiring season of collaboration with an incredible team, and I’m looking forward to working with extraordinary artists and creators. I’ve relocated to Amsterdam for the next several months… But hey, I still love LA, and I’ll be back! I’m also continuing my work with The Music Center @musiccenterla in Los Angeles as Senior Advisor for Digital Arts. We have an extraordinary lineup of projects in LA ahead, and I can’t wait to share more. Ps. photo taken by Julian in front of our temporary Amsterdam home by @futureofnonfiction
Just wrapped an incredible SEE session with Cohort A today — the energy, the questions, the willingness to go back and fetch what we forgot 🪶 If you missed it (or have been on the fence), this is your last call to join us for SEE before we move into FETCH next week. 📅 Thursday, July 2nd @ 1pm PST 🔗 Link in bio to book We're going back for the wisdom, the alternatives, and the value that got left out of the room when AI was built top-down. Sankofa teaches us — it's not taboo to go back for what you forgot. 💛 Sliding scale spots are available — money should never be the reason you're left out of this conversation. 🎁 Know someone who'd love this? You can gift a seat to a friend, collaborator, or someone in your community. Come SEE with us. #MakingAnotherAI #Sankofa #AIvalues #CreativeFutures #DigitalSovereignty #ArtistsAndAI by @futureofnonfiction
WORLDING would not be possible without our incredible mentors. 🌟 Each mentor is thoughtfully matched to meet the needs of the project teams of our cohort. This year, we were lucky to welcome back three returning mentors, Ryat Yezbick, Max Musau, and Joanna Wright, and to welcome Beata Calinska to the WORLDING family for the first time. Visit our website to learn more, subscribe to our newsletter, and stay tuned as we grow and expand the network. 🌱 #WORLDING2026 #ClimateFutures #CoCreation #MIT by @futureofnonfiction
🧱Work for @chi_pohao @zonesoundcreative • What If You Could Conduct an Ensemble of Microalgae? 🧚 【如果可以指揮一群微藻合奏團？】 • “Life in Motion” is an interactive installation where the audience engages in real-time with visuals and sound through hand gestures. Artist Chi Po-Hao ( @chi_pohao ) explores the dynamic operations of “Life“ across multiple scales. By transforming diverse biological data into interactive signals for audio and imagery, the work weaves microorganisms, plants, and the environment into the narrative fabric of the exhibition. • In this LA edition, we have introduced new chapters and interactive experiences. Audiences can now conduct an ensemble of microalgae with their hands, reconstruct the growth patterns of coral polyps, evoke tactile feedback from digital plants, and simulate urban networks modeled after root systems. Supported by Ministry of Culture, Taiwan; Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles 前期創作支持 | 双融域 AMBI SPACE • #InteractionDesign #AudioVisual #TouchDesinger #互動設計 #音像藝術 by @futureofnonfiction
I’m excited to be returning to Cannes this year for the second edition of the Curator Network. Thank you to @marchedufilm and the @competitionimmersive for the invitation. I’m thrilled to join this year’s group of leading museum curators, cultural institutions, and themed entertainment venues. It looks like we’ll be exploring a wide range of themes, including science and history, social impact, nature and environment, leisure and gaming, music, and experiential art, alongside diverse technologies from AI to spatial computing (VR, MR, video mapping, and binaural 3D audio). Looking forward to meeting amazing creators and fellow curators from around the world at the Carlton Hotel, which will also host the immersive exhibition ✨ Thank you for your amazing work @mgcinema 📷 by Julian snapped on our patio on a good hair day by @futureofnonfiction
I am very proud and touched to mark the important one-year anniversary of the devastating Los Angeles fires through this event. The Innovation Social series at @musiccenterla , which I curate, are designed to spark imagination among Angelenos through a range of experiential projects, inviting the public to connect and envision the future of art, culture and Los Angeles. For today’s event, we are presenting the multimedia documentary Out of the Ashes, by Nonny de la Peña @nonnydelapena and Rory Mitchell @rorycmitchell @mercantilestudios The work demonstrates how stories told through XR tools can help people process collective experiences like the L.A. fires, acting both as a reflection on their impact and a vessel for collective grief. We will also feature a live musical performance by @evolvealtadena @mayajupiter , composed of survivors of the Eaton Fire. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to learn how to use 3D scanning tools on their smartphones to begin creating their own short, memory-filled clips, as well as participate in a workshop led by James Rojas @jamestrojas that explores how we imagine and build resilient, equitable communities. Acorns will also be given away by @treepeople_org as symbols of resilience and renewal. Hope to see you there: RSVP link in bio by @futureofnonfiction
As we celebrate the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the summer solstice in the Southern Hemisphere -a moment marking both the return of light and its fullness-I’m feeling nostalgic (again). This year, I celebrated the summer solstice in the most beautiful way: honoring life, friendship, and togetherness at Livia’s gathering, in her truly magical place on earth. We met ten years ago at the @uniondocs residency in NYC, and arriving again from NYC, this time into Swiss stillness (and very chatty cows), felt like a perfect transition. We traced a decade of life through beautiful places, people, and landscapes. When you’re around @liv_vonaesch , the water always finds you. I swam with her in lakes and rivers and watched her feature debut, @home.is.the.ocean . (When Livia began shooting this film, she returned to NYC in December 2016 and had a chance to meet my mom.) As Livia gathered her incredible circle for this year’s summer solstice, I kept thinking about the extraordinary network of people I carry with me. Waiting there was a package/ birthday gift from my beloved @sheylapoolp . What a feeling to receive mail in the middle of the Swiss mountains. And just yesterday, I played the vinyl she gave me to celebrate her birthday. I also brought Livia a lighthouse teapot (a symbolic item for us), finally delivered after years of collecting LA energy through gatherings with my special people. I also finally met the rosemary plant that had been planted for me in these Swiss mountains a year earlier. And how did rosemary become so important in my life? Thanks to @juliana.sakae , who introduced me to beautiful Búzios by @betha.erich when I visited her in Brazil the year before where I bathed in rosemary. All these threads of extraordinary people woven through my life and existence. You are my light. ✨ by @futureofnonfiction
LAST WEEKEND IN LOS ANGELES. 🌌 The Music Center LA Presents Black Planetarium: Uncharted Anthologies is now in its final days. This inaugural exhibition at The Music Center LA’s Digital Arts Space on #jerrymossplaza was curated by Beata Calinska @futureofnonfiction Uncharted was incubated at MIT Open Documentary Lab. A couple of weeks ago, together with our team, I opened the Digital Arts Space at L.A.’s Performing Arts Center @musiccenterla After last year’s 2024 season of experimenting with the program in this space alongside @kamalsinclair , we transformed the existing pavilion into a more flexible, black box–style gallery. The first artist to take over the space this season is Kidus Hailesilassie @k.hailesilassie , presenting Black Planetarium: Uncharted Anthologies. The exhibition invites audiences into a collective rehearsal for other worlds, transforming the Digital Arts Space into a living constellation of textiles, moving image, installation, and virtual reality. Exhibition Dates 📅 October 23 – December 14 🕓 Thursday–Friday: 4–8 p.m. 🕑 Saturday–Sunday: 2–8 p.m. All of this is made possible thanks to the incredible producing team at The Music Center: Taylor Comen, Patrick Traylor @the_montresor , and U-Jung Jung, as well as the fantastic team of docents, expertly supervised by Nancy Castro and Raymond Hernandez. Project Credits: Virtual Reality Co-directors: Kidus Hailesilassie, Ainslee Alem Robson Choreography: Elisabeth Efua Sutherland @efuasutherland Performance: Hvrmony Adams @cvusehvrm Producers: Aja Quinn Evan, Kidus Hailesilassie, Ainslee Alem Robson, Liam Young @liam_y Executive Producer: Lisa Osborne, Black Public Media Production Coordination @aleynajanae The Music Center’s Sponsors: Department of Cultural Affairs – City of Los Angeles @lacity Sony Pictures Entertainment @sonypictures Black Planetarium is the recipient of the 2025 @arselectronica S+T+ARTS Prize Africa Award of Distinction.
