Well it’s safe to say we weren’t expecting that level of response! 💙

Since sharing our expression of interest for collaborators a few days ago, we’ve been pleasantly overwhelmed by nearly 250 responses from incredible individuals and organisations working across futures, participatory design, sustainability research and more. Thank you so much to everyone who responded to and shared our post - it just goes to show how much appetite there is for creative futures work, even if the infrastructure isn’t quite there to support it yet.

As a small team of three, it might take us some time to get back to everyone who reached out, so please bear with us! 💌

A few people did reach out asking about the role, project or job. We’d just like to clarify that we are looking for collaborators and existing (or potential!) consortia to build work around futures, creative practice and democratisation.

It’s been really inspiring to read all your messages and hear about the work happening in these spaces around the globe. We’re looking forward to building this community of practice with you 🐇 ✨ by @futuresfolk

Looking for research partners for upcoming funding calls in 2026–2027! ✨

We are seeking researchers, research groups, and consortium partners interested in either:
1. including us in existing project proposals, or
2. co-developing new consortia and applications together

We are particularly interested in collaborations around sustainable and regenerative futures, multispecies perspectives and biodiversity, neighbourhood communities, and the democratisation of society, knowledge, and decision-making.

Our association brings expertise in:
• Communication, dissemination, and impact
• Public and stakeholder engagement
• Futures thinking and foresight
• Co-design and participatory approaches
• Arts-based and creative research methods

If you see potential synergies, send us a message. We'd love to explore ideas together! ✨ On a colorful background text looking for researchers by @futuresfolk

This week, we had the honor of joining a discussion on justice and futures at the Rice and Beans event 🍚 🫘

We shared our perspective on democratization as an approach toward more just futures while enjoying a beautiful meal together. The conversation was rich and reflective, exploring the roles of community, time, and space in shaping more just futures.

Thank you to all the participants and organizers, @seamshelsinki @studiokymmenen Ida Urmas, Jenan Bayati and Maria Okkonen for such a meaningful session. Stay tuned for the next Rice and Beans in Helsinki! by @futuresfolk

The third Rice&Beans gathering will take place again in a couple of weeks! 🍚🫘

The concept is simple: we invite a group of designers from different fields to share a simple meal and an open conversation.

As before, we will begin with a short talk presented by Andrea Gilly and Iines Reinikainen from @futuresfolk. This time, the theme will be future-making, and the role and impact that designers have in imagining and creating more just and hopeful futures 🔮

More information will be available in a few days, but you can sign up now. (Sign up link in stories 👉) by @futuresfolk

🔦 Project Spotlight: Niin Luonto Vastaa / As Nature Answers 🔦

Collective imagination practitioners @iinesrein, @sooon.studio and Zeynep Falay von Flittner have been exploring the potential of intentionally creating new language reflecting the multiplicity of nature relationships and interactions.

Across collaborative workshops and research, they have been exploring how collective imagination and participatory language-making can help articulate and form a shared understanding of what is felt, and yet unnamed: grief, care, kinship and the complexity of experiences which shape our societal entanglement with the natural world.

In their workshop process they looked for shared experiences to describe, and participants consistently found themselves reaching for language that expressed the complexity of emotions felt in connection with the natural world. Joy, wonder, awe and appreciation were contrasted with feelings of shame and disconnect. New terms were developed and defined, each one carrying an intention to name, to confront, or to imagine differently. Some words sought to more accurately describe the present, giving language to emotions and realities often left unspoken.

The participants effectively formed political imaginations of several key issues within the current system, and what a more desired eco-social reality would be like, connected by changes in language as an intervention point.

Futures Folk ry is a nonprofit expert association, founded to advance democratization of regenerative futures. We believe that futures should not be shaped by a few, but imagined and built collectively.
Our work focuses on making scientific knowledge accessible, while expanding and diversifying the very knowledge base that informs decisions about our shared futures. Our philosophy emphasizes creative and participatory approaches.

Our board includes communication, design, and regenerative futures experts Andrea Gilly, Iines Reinikainen and Savannah Vize.

What to expect?
In our first year, we are building for long-term impact. We will focus on collaborating with other associations and organizations to provide education for staff and volunteers, as well as practical support in project work. Alongside this, we are preparing to launch our own initiatives aligned with our key impact areas.

We warmly welcome conversations with collaborators who share our commitment to more inclusive and regenerative futures. Feel free to get in touch with us by email: futuresfolk@proton.me
