“Caras de nopal”

One of my favorite, trickiest projects I worked on (super fun on studying el nopal itself) & plan to continue on bettering this project & hopefully getting it somewhere big!

Nopales are a huge thing in my culture or at least with my family ! In this work instead of doing the traditional family tree I added my own little twist to it creating a family nopal including my parents, my brother and myself as younger versions of ourselves and letting these nopales die overtime to showcase the idea of growth and getting older together.

(A series of dresses from Samantha’s mom fashion design sketchbook when she was 15 years old in Mexico City. Samantha makes her mom’s dresses come to life demonstrating pride and honor through this work. Exploring the concept of culture, family, and the end of a cycle.)

Muñequita 🇲🇽
(A continuation series of “las muñequitas del barrio)

*Trying something new this time in my lil studio — designing custom garments for a specific model and also styling the hair! I loved every part of this process and bringing my own artistic vision for Ximena to life.
*top & scarf sewed by me - Silk mini skirt and heels created with screen printed white images of my mom (who is the inspiration for sewing and creating garments for my photography). Designs are also inspired from my moms fashion sketch book when she was 15 years old.
