The Gen 2 Knock Detective is the easiest way to monitor knock on your motor. In this video we will be installing and demonstrating it on @eagenmotorsportsinc's turbocharged K24 Civic.

Everything needs a turbo

We finally got Darren's heavily modified YXZ1000R up and running. It's currently completely out of injector at 15psi, so I had my headphones connected to the Knock Detective while we gave it a shakedown 🤟 by @fwlr.tuning

So you turned up the boost and now you're misfiring?

When you start cramming more fuel between the gap by turning the boost up (or running richer AFRs), the resistance of that gap also increases because fuel is an electrical insulator and the electrical resistance of air also goes up with pressure. This can lead to misfires as the ignition system struggles to create an arc through the denser mixture.

In that scenario you have two options - turn up the spark energy or reduce the plug gap.

Turning up the spark energy by increasing the coil dwell time can work, but will put more heat into the ignition system.

In my experience, it's best to start by gapping the plugs down to around 0.028" on turbo engines.

You probably shouldn't use a hammer though 😜 by @fwlr.tuning

If all of the air entering the engine doesn't pass by the MAF sensor, the ECU won't know about the extra air and won't inject the right amount of fuel. If the leak is before the turbo, it will be a lean condition. If the leak is after the turbo, it can be lean under vacuum and rich under boost. by @fwlr.tuning
