MEET THE MAKER: Rodrigue Studios Meet potter Kevin Rodrigue, the artist behind Rodrigue Studios! “Kevin Rodrigue began his ceramic education during a four-year stint at West Virginia University. During his time at university, he studied all forms and styles of ceramics, finally landing on a traditional Asian style. Towards the end of his intensive studies, he traveled six weeks to China to work and study in some of the remote pottery villages of Xian. He was able to work with the villagers to learn about the traditional celadon glazes, their production methods, and primitive coal firing techniques. Upon leaving West Virginia University, Kevin began slowly advancing his skills and techniques. In 2017 Kevin formed Rodrigue Studios and he began working full time as a potter. Rodrigue Studios sells in craft shows up and down the east coast, and the current working studio is at Liberty Town Arts Workshop. His current work consists of traditional and altered Asian forms with similar celadons like those that he studied whilst in China. He also teaches several pottery classes and workshops and has won awards at shows such as “Judges Choice Award” in August of 2021 at the Mt. Gretna Outdoor Art Show and “Booth of Distinction” in July of 2022 at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.” Swipe through to see his traditional Asian forms and celadon-glazed creations! 📸 Don’t miss out on seeing Kevin and over 33 other incredible local ceramic artists at the Throwdown! MEET THE MAKER: Caesura Ceramics Meet potter Abigail Charney, the artist behind Caesura Ceramics! “In an orchestral piece of music, the Caesura rest passes only at the direction of the conductor. My heart for every piece I create is for you to encounter a Caesura yourself. To evoke peaceful pauses throughout your busy day and to create a calming, beautiful moment in the place you call home. Whether it be a mug with you in the morning, or a vase holding a bouquet of flowers, I believe every piece creates a Caesura moment of grounding, breath, and pause in the present... Only to move on at the direction of the Conductor.” Swipe through to see her work and catch a peek behind the clay! MEET THE MAKERS: Sabine Mullin & Terri Kunkler Meet ceramic artists Sabine Mullin and Terri Kunkler, who will be sharing a booth at this year’s market! Sabine Mullin: “Pottery - a living art - enhances our daily lives. My pieces range from useful to decorative. My mugs and pots are sturdy and intended for daily use. Most importantly, they are meant to bring joy. The surface carvings and decorations are often inspired by the piece itself as I work on it. I am fascinated by the way glazes interact with the clay body and each other when layered. The possibilities are infinite. So, I am still working on finding a favorite combination. The color range of my pottery is a reflection of this journey.” ✨ Terri Kunkler: “After I retired from a teaching career I found pottery! I love creating fun, functional pottery pieces. I enjoy decorating with transfers and learning new techniques, especially from other potters.” ✨ Swipe through to check out Sabine’s layered glaze creations alongside Terri’s fun, transfer-decorated pieces! Don’t miss out on stopping by their shared tent at the Throwdown! MEET THE MAKER: Pottery by Friends Meet Stephanie Lawshe, Alyssa Budoff, and Tori Powers—the trio behind Pottery by Friends! “Pottery by Friends is a Fredericksburg-based ceramic collective formed by three friends—Stephanie Lawshe, Alyssa Budoff, and Tori Powers—who share a love of clay and a love of community. Each artist brings her own style and inspiration to the wheel, but they sell together because creating is more fun as a team. Stephanie discovered pottery in 2021, after two decades exploring other creative mediums. Drawn to the grounding, meditative process of working with clay, she creates whimsical, nature-inspired pieces full of personality. Alyssa began throwing in 2021. She approaches her work with a sense of humor, giving everyday objects a personality of their own—mugs with expressive faces, planters shaped like quirky little creatures. Alongside these playful pieces, she also creates vases and bowls that showcase her range with glaze and form. Tori returned to pottery in 2022, after a high school class first sparked her interest. She creates vessels, bowls, and lamps marked by abstract, minimalist carving, often burnished or left unglazed to let the clay’s natural beauty—and, in her lamps, the light—shine through. Together, Pottery by Friends invites you to explore three distinct voices shaped by the same material—and the joy of making it together.” ✨ Swipe through to see their whimsical, funny, and minimalist creations! Don’t miss out on seeing these three friends and over 30 other incredible local ceramic artists at the Throwdown!
