Onsight Solo’d Dark Shadows last week and wow what a beautiful route! This 7th pitch face climb with a juggy finger crack was probably the highlight for me so here is a minute of flow with the sun in my eyes. What Free Soloing has taught me about managing fear and performing under pressure in Corporate America...... Absolutely nothing....I’m stuck at the Denver Airport right now so I decided a healthy way to kill time today was to go on Linked-In. I saw some old posts from a few months back with people trying to equate Alex Honnold’s free Solo of Tapei 101 to how they cope/succeed in corporate America. As someone who works in corporate America and also free solo’s (extremely beginner level, unimpressive routes), I really don’t understand how people are translating the newly main stream outdoor adventure world to success in the corporate world. Yet, people are paying five figures plus to have people like Honnold inspire investment bankers to improve their quarterly returns. I probably get more anxiety from a teams call than any of my colleagues. Yet, they would hate to be in any of the positions shown above without a rope. I have met a lot of much more talented people with incredible mental strength in the outdoors and nearly none of them work a 9-5 and would rather live out of their car then translate the skill sets they have honed outside to the Microsoft suite. I wonder how long the corporate world will continue to draw inspiration from people like this before they move on to Hyrox and pickle ball pros? by @g_cully55
