Did you know that bees are responsible for pollinating about 1/3 of the food we eat? And that the honeybee is native to Africa, not America? 🌍

The African honeybee plays an essential role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems. By supporting these incredible pollinators, we help restore cosmic harmony and ensure a thriving planet for all beings. 🐝

Without bees, many of our favorite foods like apples, tomatoes, almonds, and peaches would face growing challenges, which could impact global food security. Some crops that thrive thanks to bees include:
🍏 Apples
🍓 Strawberries
🍑 Peaches
🥒 Cucumbers
🌰 Almonds
🍅 Tomatoes
🍈 Melons
🍇 Grapes

This is both a global and local issue. In a school in Ghana, a bee infestation was preventing students from accessing the computer lab and causing anxiety. We took action by safely removing the bees and training 350 students to become beekeepers, empowering them to protect the honeybee and create new job opportunities. by @gabbihue

World Pollinators Day 🐝🌼

We had a beautiful time celebrating pollinators with our community alongside Tiffany Grantham, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, and the Charlotte Hornets.

One of the highlights of the day was the Book Bus — a school bus filled with free books for children across the community. After signing a quick waiver, kids were invited to step aboard, explore the shelves, and choose books to take home with them.

It’s a simple but powerful idea:
meet children where their excitement already exists.

Many families came out inspired by the community offering, and that excitement quickly turned into curiosity about reading, learning, and the natural world around them.

Throughout the day we also shared a small table presentation about beekeeping, introducing children to the smoker and the tools we use when working with bees.

My son Amir was my assistant for the day and did a wonderful job helping name the tools and explain their roles to the younger children.

The observation hive quickly became a favorite part of the table. Children were able to gently place their ears near the hive and hear the soft buzzing of the bees up close. Watching the amazement on their faces — and the joy in the parents’ eyes — was truly special.

For many attendees, it was their first time seeing bees that close.

We are also incredibly thankful to Three Sisters Market Community Garden, located just across the street from the library, for allowing us to showcase their bees for the event.

The tiny faces lit up when I told the children the bees in the hive were actually their neighbors, borrowed from right across the road. I didn’t want to stress my own bees by transporting them across the city, and we were blessed to have healthy hives right across the street.

Climbing in and out of the suit was so warm it wasn't long before my hair was pulled into a ponytail 💖🌼👩🏽

I loved working with these partners in my pursuit to increase honeybee visibility offline and inspire the desire to grow fresh food, improve food access, and strengthen community ownership in West Charlotte.

Met this doll on the sidewalk yesterday, and she needed to see my hands. She was so curious.

So I removed my gloves and sat on the sidewalk with her. She hugged me and touched my face through the veil.

Violet — she’s 14 months.
She spoke in gibberish that was easy for my heart to understand, so we sat and talked a while. How sweet as a bee is it to meet a flower in multiple dimensions.

For little girls—
That’s one of my whys. I do it to show them that, like flowers, they can also dance with the bees, and rivers of golden honey will heal and provide forevermore. 🤍
