“Overall, a heck of a year,” Iowa head coach Jan Jensen said in a post-game press conference. “This type of ending, definitely disappointing. But when I briefly looked at the box score, I don’t believe we deserved to win it. Virginia, hats off.” by @gabbydrees

Story with @isabellefoland, for @thedailyiowan, on a Saturday afternoon at Tommy's home in Burlington.

In a biology class in 1995, police arrested Tommy Miller. 17 1/2 years later, he was released, and with a strong support system and a lucky encounter, he started working at a fertilizer plant before eventually landing a job in his hometown at a manufacturing company, where he currently works.

Thankful for Tommy and his partner Morgan (right on third slide) for letting me and Isabelle tell this story. by @gabbydrees

Protesters, mobilized by Escucha Mi Voz, sang songs, offered winter gear, and spoke, with organizers and religious leaders cheering for each family that returned from their check-ins.

Roughly 1,000 “No Kings” protestors demonstrated in Iowa City on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025. Protestors arrived at the Pentacrest at 10 a.m. and listened to speakers like Iowa Rep. Adam Zabner, Iowa Sen. Janice Weiner, and Alejandra Escobar, community organizer for Eschucha Mi Voz.

After listening to speakers, protestors marched through the sidewalks of downtown Iowa City, down Washington Street to Gilbert Street, and then back from Iowa Ave. to the Pentacrest.

This is the second “No Kings” protest in Iowa City. The Iowa City demonstration is part of protests taking place nationwide against Donald Trump’s administration, ICE raids, and National Guard deployments across major U.S. Cities.
