Some fun news: I’m writing a book on caviar! A short and sweet primer on a heady delicacy that has seen an unprecedented resurgence (in some rather unorthodox ways). There will be blini, there will be Doritos, and there will certainly be champagne. Thank you to @abramsbooks for this ridiculously glamorous assignment and to @angelamiller1240 for brokering the deal with style. Hey, I co-wrote a book! Love Japan has been many years in the making, but I dare say it was worth the wait—and it’s now available for preorder!! (Link in bio.) Together with @sawakofood and @aaronmeyerisrael of @shalomjapan, we tell their unique story, one that merges love, food, and culture, along with deliciously uncomplicated recipes for Japanese home cooking that we hope will become part of your repertoire. There’s so much to choose from—chapters devoted to Japanese breakfast, hot pot feasts, sandos, noodles, and of course, rice! (And much, much more.) Writing and cooking from this book has been a years-long education, and I can’t wait to see it out in the world, hopefully in pride of place in your kitchen, splattered with okonomiyaki batter and dashi stains. My latest adventures in @nytstyle brought me into the orbit of the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. What this looked like: Hanging out in front of Madison Square Garden for hours during a heat wave, going on a Taylor Swift walking tour in 99 degree weather, and trying to imagine who I would want to cater my wedding if I were TNT. Today was one of those everything happens at once moments. Mother’s Day, first of all. Then my first ever @nytstyle story, about my beloved Montreal, came out in the Sunday paper. My second @nytstyle story was published online today, a piece on the dirty soda trend. I’m admittedly exhausted but content, feeling lots of humility and gratitude today for what life can bring. The @jewishfoodsociety Fall Fundraising Auction is in full swing. @bagelambassador and James Beard award winning writer (and @bagelfest Expert Judge!) @gabiwrites will co-host this hands-on baking class at @bagel.market in Midtown. You and up to 14 guests will learn the full process of crafting authentic New York bagels, from mixing and rolling the dough to boiling, baking, and, of course, tasting your creations hot from the oven with gourmet cream cheese and smoked fish. Along the way, you’ll learn the fascinating story of how this humble bread rose from 17th century Poland to iconic Jewish food, and get a behind-the-scenes tour of a shop that produces 10,000 bagels a day. Leave with plenty of bagels, the original recipe, and a newfound appreciation for one of the most iconic Jewish foods out there.
