Hello all of you beautiful people! I’m Gabrielle, an artist and surface designer.

I want to welcome you to my Instagram account where you’ll see snapshots of my creative life.

I am the founder of Gabrielle De Winter Creative, where I design repeating illustrations for wallpaper, textiles and more. I’m inspired by process, heirloom quality, heritage design and nature. I believe in working with my hand to paper with every design I make, showing hand drawn qualities in my work.

I hope my work can bring warmth, a sense of nostalgia to those who see it and beauty to the atmospheres of home.

If you’d like to read more, please check out my ā€œstudio journalā€ which is a quarterly blog found on my website. With each entry, you can expect to read what I’ve been up to, exciting studio news, a free giveaway and seasonal insights.

For licensing or collab inquiries, please send me a DM.

With so much love,

I create hand-drawn wallpaper and surface pattern designs inspired by historical textiles, botanical forms, antique ornament, and the feeling of home.
Every design begins slowly by hand… with sketching.
Inspired by my mother’s flowers, my grandmother’s antiques, and the heirlooms that shaped me, my work is created to feel warm, nostalgic, imperfect, and deeply human.

Please follow along here to see what is happening for me and my work.

I license my work with companies that align with my values and style, if you would like to inquire, please send me a DM.

I hope you enjoy swiping through this mini presentation šŸ’›šŸ’›

I’m in LOVE with the 2027 @benjaminmoore colour of the year! They just announced it today.

I’ve been working on a collection that is a continuation of Heirloom Studies, where I’m creating beautiful designs inspired by historical textiles, studies of botanicals and classic coordinates. I saw this today and thought…. K I got to try something —-> look šŸ‘€

I desperately want to see this Hibiscus Study wallpaper as a feature wall beside walls with #webstergreen Benjamin Moore painted floor to ceiling 😻

Or this design in someone’s nursery 🄹 making beautiful sweet memories.

Or with this delicate botanical, hand drawn with care, and attention.

I mean common! šŸ™ƒ

This paint colour will pair soo nicely with antiques, real wood, brass fixtures, porcelain, stone and glass. Give me the real stuff! I’m here for it; making a home feel collected rather than page 14 of of an _____ catalogue (I know you know) 🤣

I’m so happy with this colour and I am so excited to keep pairing more designs with it.

Please let me know what you think of this colour in the comments and my pairing suggestions. šŸ’š what room would you want to see these pairings in?

Are you a fan of Webster Green?

Designs are available through my @spoonflower shop. Link is in my bio. by @gabrielledewinter

A little refresh with the sweetest @artzaco_ wallpaper šŸ¤

I wanted to bring a sweet touch of color into this space while keeping everything classic and timeless as we transition from nursery to little girls’ room. Our little one was set on keeping her bed and bedding, so it was important that every new detail complemented the pieces she already loved so much. A few thoughtful touches were all it needed to transform this room into a darling retreat

I created this bed canopy look with curtains from @twopagescurtains with the patterns ā€œFloriferousā€ and ā€œSilk Stripeā€, with matching tie backs and pillow covers. It turned out exactly as envisioned 😻 and really this is the bed of my dreams.

I wrote more details in my Autumn Studio Journal, found on my website (link in profile).

My Autumn Studio Journal is here. šŸ‚
This season, I’m sharing the story behind my experience with the Two Pages Curtain Design Contest, along with a new Studio Gift: The Language of Surface Design — A Gentle Guide to Surface Design Terms.
I created this guide because I believe there are so many wonderful opportunities for artists and companies to work together… and sometimes we simply don’t quite speak the same terms.
The guide is a gentle first step toward bridging that gap, with terms covering design, licensing, business, and production, along with little insights from my own experience as a surface designer working with companies.
It’s free to read or download, with no sign-up required.
And this is only the first edition. If there’s a surface design term you’d like to see included in the next one, I’d love to hear from you.
And if you know someone starting a product-based business who might be looking for artists to work with, please send the guide their way. There are artists out there who would love to hear from them.
Let’s bridge the gap together. šŸ¤

Gaberielle De Winter @gabrielledewinter -Heirloom Studies

Bold botanicals meet a softer, more timeless palette, bringing a sense of history and warmth into the room.

From statement florals to quieter tonal patterns, the collection shifts naturally across different spaces while keeping its distinctive character.

Which one would you bring into your space?

There is a language behind every pattern.
If you’ve spent any time in surface design, you’ve probably encountered words like hero print, half-drop, colourway, strike-off, substrate, or sell sheet.
They’re everyday words to those of us in the industry but not necessarily to the manufacturers, product companies, retailers, or creatives who are meeting one another for the first time.
I created The Language of Surface Design: A Gentle Guide to Surface Design Terms to help bridge that gap.
Inside you’ll find terms from the creative process through to licensing and production, explained simply and accompanied by illustrations from my studio.
Because there are so many artists who want to work with companies, and so many companies looking for artwork, but sometimes they just don’t know it yet.
If a shared vocabulary can make those conversations a little easier, perhaps it can help some of those collaborations happen.
The guide is free, with no sign-up required.
Read or download it through the link in my bio.

Effortless layering with the Heirloom Studies collection. I designed this collection with the intention of having any of the 10 historically inspired patterns to be able to work together without being too matchy matchy. Even though each pattern has a different structure and inspiration, they all are by the same hand and follow my colour story —-> swipe for more

All start hand drawn on paper. I scan my inked versions of my motifs before I vectorize and create that perfect repeat.

Although the designs are inspired by history, the colour palette comes from something a little more personal šŸŒ¼šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦šŸ’ @samanrzpr photography

Minuet Meadow is a supporting pattern, that is elegant enough to stand on its own. It is inspired by block print patterns with a subtle background vertical stripe.

Francis Stripe is also a supporting pattern, drawn to look like a woven Regency style stripe.

Rosette Story is inspired by a piece of embroidery from 1583 that was the cover of Queen Elizabeth I’s Gideon Bible.

Rose Ogee is inspired by hand painted blue and white porcelain that seems to be such a widespread visual language across cultures, I had to have it represented here. Romantic and timeless.

Finch Chinoiserie is inspired by the European interpretation of East Asian art. Instead of detailed vertical branches, I designed this in a half drop meandering layout so that it could be used across a variety of surfaces.

Evervine is another supporting pattern inspired by Jacquard- loom fabrics.

Tendrelle is another supporting pattern inspired by illuminated pages of manuscripts.

Brushwood is inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement, in particular mirrored wallpapers.

Silk stripe is a chintz inspired stripe.

Floriferous is our Super Hero šŸ¦øā€ā™€ļø it’s a trailing block print inspired by Chintz and Indian Florals.

The Heirloom Studies Collection is now available as drapes, shades, pillowcases and tablecloths through @twopagescurtains

As part of the 2026 Two Pages Design contest where we were asked to show art as curtains.

Shop link is in my profile under ā€œTwo Pagesā€

I’m so excited to announce that I will be on Team Bearbell as a Course Expert & Guide for Repertoire again this year.

If you don’t know @bearbellproductions is a pattern historian and educator for surface design and I first took her course back in 2023. She offers her course only once a year where we learn about pattern history, layouts, drawing motif tips and more.

I could go on about how wonderful I think this course is, but I thought I would show you!!! From my own work ——->> swipe to see some before repertoire and after patterns of my work.

Find out more @bearbellproductions šŸ˜‡

We learn how to create complicated half drop trailing floral patterns with elements like stems or vines that trail across a surface.

Before taking the course, I didn’t understand how to get elements like vines or stems to continue and repeat across a surface. I only really knew how to make tossed or spot patterns … 🄹 and it was really frustrating to feel so limited.

We learn how to incorporate this classic shape like an ogee to create balance and flow.

Before, I tried to create mirrored patterns, but I really didn’t understand how to create a balanced structure. They were just kind of mirrored globs of motifs. šŸ˜•

We learn about different historical styles, including how we can draw them, and how to recreate similar layouts.

… just not really understanding before 🫢

šŸ˜ more historically inspired pattern examples that gave me the confidence to show my work, pitch and become licensed.

A sad attempt of a ditsy floral before Repertoire, by yours truly. You can make fun of this one… it’s okay 🤪

We learn how to make mirrored and interlocking patterns šŸ˜ and of course nerd šŸ¤“ out over Arts and Crafts, and MORE styles.

I think you get my point! This is my attempt before Repertoire. I was understanding some things… but not enough to be making patterns I was really happy with.

To find out more about the course go to @bearbellproductions

I’m not an affiliate, but am a course guide and would be so happy to see you there. by @gabrielledewinter
