My sweet boy 💔. Fuck cancer.

These have without a doubt been the worst weeks of my life and I have never felt so heartbroken. In a matter of just a few months, Max went from his normal self to fighting a very aggressive oral cancer that ate away his jaw bone. By the time it was diagnosed, it had already spread to his lungs and he was given at best a few months to live. He put on such a brave face; the oncologist was shocked by how stoic he was, because with all the damage in his mouth, it would have been so painful. I’ve never felt so helpless watching his mouth slowly droop more and more open as the cancer kept eating away at the bone. It didn’t take long to come to the decision that he shouldn’t have to suffer any longer. So I arranged for a vet to come to our home, and today we said goodbye to Max.

Max was my whole heart and my soulmate in the form of a dog. I knew it the day I met him. He saw me through my best and my worst. He got me through my last year of pharmacy school, a move across the country, and almost a year of Jeremiah being in Korea.

I don’t remember how to live in a world without Max. I’m fortunate my mom could spend the week with us and be here to help me say goodbye. And this coming week I head to Japan to see Jeremiah. But I’m already dreading coming back to a home that’s a little emptier.

To my little burrito: I love you more than words can describe. Thank you for choosing me to be your person, and for being the greatest dog I ever could have asked for. I’ll miss you forever ❤️. by @gabs612

Conversation last night:
Jeremiah (who is out of town): “Are you going to the farmer’s market tomorrow?”
Me: “meh, kind of want to sleep in.”
Jeremiah: “But you have to go, it’s the last one of the year!”
Me: “UGHHHHHHHHHHHH fine.”

So I get up this morning and go to the farmer’s market, missing out on sleeping in and a lot of good football. However, the universe rewarded me for missing out on all of that … with what you ask? Plants obviously 🤣 (I swear I actually had no intention of buying more today).

All of the indoor plants were 50% off AND they had one of my wish list plants, a monstera burle marx flame 😍 HOW COULD I NOT 🤷🏻‍♀️. And I threw 2 other plants in there for good measure. by @gabs612
