All set up for my last gig of the season at Eureka Halifax.

Not entirely sure but I think it’s been 20 years I’ve been gigging here.

Dolly Parton eh?

Amazing vocal, great personality , composer and multi instrumentalist.

My first ever Glastonbury over a decade ago featured DP on the legend spot.

She was the first artist I watched on The Pyramid Stage and one of the best in such a parade of glorious performances I’ve witnessed down the years.

The concert was astounding as a Glasto virgin and her songs and intro stories massive.

The most frequent anecdotes I tell about that afternoon gig were when she introduced Jolene and explained Jolene was real and she did try to take her man and she was as beautiful as described and these days when she watches her husband snoozing on the porch she wishes she had let her have him. (Balanced by telling us she took comfort from the millions of dollars she made from the record)

But best of all she announced that she was a massive fan of “Y’all’s little old Benny Hill” and proceed to pull out a saxophone and play the theme tune perfectly.

Day 3 of The Songsmiths Erupting for Lancaster Council.

19 songs composed today in and around the backstreets of Morecambe.

Even managed a cheeky photo op with Eric on our lunch break.

I’ve always been a fan of Morecambe sea front especially as you can see beautiful Barrow from it but my opinion on the landward side and backstreets really altered today exploring.

There are multiple fine cafes, boozers, architecture, artworks and people behind the scenes.

We continue to wander and write around Lancaster and the Lancashire coast until next Monday.

FB memory.

The day the serving Fool of Muncaster Castle came within a foot of the very precious and priceless Luck of Muncaster.

The Luck is a glass drinking vessel gifted to the castle by Henry VI in 1464 after Sir John Penington offered the monarch sanctuary fleeing the battle of Hexham.

The Luck remains the castles most precious treasure.

That particular day I was working in the castle preparing a new show at the exact same time specialists from Oxford University were visiting to examine the bowl and was invited to view it.

There was much tension in the air as the castle Luck and Fool were in such close orbit and a real treat to actually see this incredible usually hidden treasure.
