Happy Thanksgiving, if that's your bag, or bird!

We're open our usual Monday hours today - noon to 5PM, so if you go the day off and you need some good reading, why not drop by the shop and pick up something that'll fill up your brain as good as big meal fills your belly!

Hey, so, is Deadpool 2 a Thanksgiving movie, and I just didn't know until now?

Interesting facts, if true!

KILL ME!!!!

Face Front True Believers, I got me two - 2 - tickets for my favourite bug-based-superhuman movie, THE FLY (1986), and I'm giving them to the first customer who can bring me a dead fly!

No, wait, forget it, that’s a terrible contest.

Let’s just say they’ll go to the first customer who can bring me a drawing of a fly.

The screening is tomorrow, Monday Oct. 12, 8PM at the Hollywood Theatre, on 3123 West Broadway.

The tickets are free, but you do gotta purchase something to get them - and you gotta present an illustration you did yourself, of a fly!!!!

So the other day I was at the T&T Market, and I found...

CENTURY EGG DORITOS

I got a bag because... I have to know!

But I still haven't opened it because... I'm scared to know!!

I just need other people to be aware, so I'm not alone in this.

Sometimes you're doing your best but somebody's still gotta work that last nerve you got, and you smile, but your jaw is so tight you could probably grind glass into sand between your teeth.

I mean, sometimes. I'm actually having a pretty nice day, myself.

Something I’m real picky about is Wolverine’s voice.

In animated or live-action he’s rarely - maybe never? - portrayed by an actual Canadian, so I get real interested in how his accent sounds.

People who ain’t from Canada don’t necessarily know how diverse our accents are. But I got buddies from Vancouver Island to PEI, and I can tell you, there ain’t just one singular Canadian voice.

Me, I can’t help noticing that most non-Canadians reduce Wolverine to a “gruff voice without any trace of a regional background,” which is kind of hilarious considering Wolverine’s supposed to be a representation of the Canadian wilderness.

He’s from Alberta, and he grew up in northern interior of BC - which just happens to be the same place I grew up too. Lotta lumberjacks and trappers in them parts, and let me tell you, they all got a way of speaking that’s unique to their own geographic histories, if’n y’know what I mean there bud?

Personally, I hope someday we get a live-action or even animated portrayal of Wolverine that can try a little harder to represent the vocab and syntax of the region the dude’s meant to be from. As somebody from that area, it’d really add some meat to the bones of the character, so to speak.

Just something I think about.

It's been such a crazy couple of weeks...

I'm sorry I didn't get to do a good post for The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and National Comic Book Day came and went as well!

And instead of posting cool memes and jokes and respectful thoughts, I've mostly been busting my butt trying to order books and toys, and then dealing with all the books and toys that I've ordered!

So, these are good-problems at worst, but I still value the interactions I get to have with folks through the shop's social media, and it sucks to miss important dates to talk about.

Don't think I'm gonna be any less busy any time soon though -- and again, that ain't a bad thing!!!

I still gotta get windows going for Halloween, make sure we're stocked up for Xmas, and even then we gotta remember to make time to celebrate how lucky we are to have so many good folks - fans and talent alike - coming through the shop and keeping things active!!!

Hope y'all are doing well!

Giant thanks to the creators of✨KLOUD9✨ - @ajomasonwriter & @dommnics - for stopping by the shop and signing all the copies of their book!!!

It's so cool to get creators - local and otherwise - through the shop, and AJ and Dom were total pros and wildly cool individuals who made our Saturday a lot brighter!

It was our pleasure to get to host them, and hopefully make a few new folks aware of their book!!!!

-Hank

ps - shoutout to friend of the store, Alex, who helped this all come together!!!!❤️ taken in Golden Age Collectables by @gacvan
