Thoughts about these beauties: Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi, If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin, Up at the Villa by W. Somerset Maugham & The Man with Night Sweats by Thom Gunn.

I particularly recommend the Nafisi and Gunn.

Some exquisite stuff here. Thank you to @freddie.reads.slowly for recommending the Jessica Au and @shawnbreathesbooks for putting me onto The Ecliptic, which absolutely ravished me.

Latest quartet of reads. Let me know if you've read any of these or if they're on your radar. If you want to read the anthology my poem was included in you can find it @quillkeeperspress in their The Echoes We Make publication. Big thanks to them for selecting one of my poems 🫶🏻

Short book review of Cameo by Rob Doyle, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Wrote a much more in depth take on this for The Manchester Review which you can read for free online at https://www.themanchesterreview.co.uk/?p=13182

Reads from the start of the year... Thank you to @shawnbreathesbooks for putting me onto Barbara Pym. The first My Struggle book left me with more questions than answers in regards to all the stuff that went down but given there are like 5 other novels I am okay with that, and more than willing to read on with the series.

Some reads from the last couple of months. Thanks to @freddie.reads.slowly for the Heinrich Böll recommendation and also to @winchesterpoetry and @fionabensonpoetry for longlisting a poem of mine for a poetry competition that brought me to Winchester for the day where I serendipitously found the Jane Holland collection for sale.

Thoughts on Vianne by Joanne Harris. Would recommend for a comforting read, especially over the cold months. Chocolat is forever my fave of hers though 🤌🏻
