Around the lower body, a restrained decorative frieze of beaded gold borders framing a band of dark aubergine vertical ribbing — precise, architectural, and quietly striking against the matte ground. New Arrivals: ⁣Louis Majorelle & Daum Nancy Art Deco Vase in Smoked Glass & Iron⁣France (Nancy, Lorraine), c. 1930⁣⁣An imposing Art Deco cornet vase in warm smoked glass set within a wrought iron mount of architectural severity. The flared trumpet body rises from a geometric armature of stacked horizontal bands, tapering vertical straps, and a fluted conical foot — the luminous fumé glass playing against dark oxidized iron in characteristically Art Deco contrast. The glass insert is removable and signed Daum Nancy France on the base. A distinguished example of the celebrated collaboration between the two great houses of the École de Nancy.⁣⁣About the Artist⁣Louis Majorelle (1859–1926) was one of the foremost figures of the École de Nancy, celebrated first for his sinuous Art Nouveau furniture and later for his transition into the geometric vocabulary of Art Deco. His wrought iron mounts — designed to cradle Daum glass inserts — became some of the most sought-after objects of the interwar period, combining architectural rigor with superb craftsmanship. Daum, founded in Nancy in 1878, supplied glass to Majorelle throughout their long collaboration, producing pieces in acid-etched, cameo, and blown glass. Émile LENOBLE (1875–1940)Circular Bowl with Geometric MotifsFrance, c. 1925Available: A refined Art Deco ceramic bowl with a high, quarter-round border and a generous central well, executed in polychrome enameled stoneware. The geometric motifs are rendered in deep navy blue against a luminous turquoise ground, often referred to as Egyptian Blue, with a finely crackled glaze that lends the piece remarkable depth and an almost archaeological presence. The rhythmic, stylized border pattern wraps the rim with quiet precision, reflecting Lenoble’s sensitivity to ancient and Asian ceramic traditions reinterpreted through a modernist lens. Signed with the artist’s monogram stamp under the base.About the ArtistÉmile Lenoble (French, 1875–1940) was one of the most important French ceramists of the early twentieth century. Son-in-law and collaborator of Ernest Chaplet, Lenoble established his studio at Choisy-le-Roi, where he developed a distinctive body of work inspired by Song dynasty Chinese stoneware, Korean celadons, and early Mediterranean pottery. Unsigned (Unknown)Secessionist Copper & Brass VaseGermany or Austria, c. 1900Available Now: A striking example of early twentieth-century German Secessionist metalwork, this cylindrical vase captures the transitional spirit of the Jugendstil movement as it pivoted toward a leaner, more architectural modernism. The central body is hand-wrought in copper with a rich, darkly oxidized original patina, flanked by three tapering brass “buttress” handles that rise the full height of the form and terminate in a vertical flare at the base. Each buttress is punctuated with openwork cutouts in stylized spirals and rectilinear bars — a vocabulary drawn from the avant-garde metalwork emerging from Germany and Austria at the turn of the century. The vase retains its removable inner sleeve, a functional detail that speaks to the thoughtful craftsmanship of the period. Unsigned, as was common for Secessionist workshop production.About the ArtistThe German Secessionist and Austrian Jugendstil movements emerged at the turn of the twentieth century as a decisive break from historicist ornament, favoring stylized geometry, organic abstraction, and an elevated appreciation for handcraft. A few new available pieces have just been added to our site, including this beautiful large ceramic vase. Manner of Jean DunandCoquille-D’oeuf Ceramic VaseFrance, c. 1930sA striking egg-shaped earthenware vase executed in the manner of Jean Dunand, the surface entirely covered in crushed eggshell inlaid into a deep carmine lacquer ground. The ivory fragments create an allover mosaic—offset against the warm red body visible between each fragment and along the interior collar. The technique, introduced to European decorative arts by Dunand in the 1920s, was widely adopted in French Art Deco workshops through the 1930s.
